Winter in a Steiner school carries a special mood of reverence and wonder. Here in Alice Springs, our desert climate shapes that experience differently……we do not have the darker days of colder regions, but instead are gifted with brilliant night skies, and a gentle winter sun that coaxes us outdoors into nature. The inner mood of winter comes more subtly here, inviting us to consciously create space for reflection and stillness, and to meet the season with intention.

I arrived in Alice Springs last year for the Cassia Winter Festival, and it remains a vivid and treasured memory. I recall the magic of that evening so clearly: standing together in the stone circle, voices lifted in song, with Scorpio rising into one of the clearest, crispest night skies I have experienced for many years. It was a moment suspended in time... simple, yet profound….and it spoke deeply of the spirit of this place. What a truly magical landscape we are part of.

As we reflect on the richness of our community, we also take time to acknowledge and farewell two much-loved members of staff, Katie Frey and Ra Schwalger.

Katie has been a valued part of our teaching team for the past three years. Her energy, enthusiasm, and unmistakable spark have touched students, families, and colleagues alike. She has brought warmth, creativity, and vitality into all that she has done, and she leaves with our deepest appreciation and gratitude.

Ra, who has been with us over the past year, has also made a meaningful and joyful contribution. Her spontaneity, vibrant spirit, and wonderful sense of humor have brought lightness and laughter into our days. Her presence will be greatly missed, and we thank her sincerely for all she has shared with our community.

We are pleased to share that we have appointed a new Business Manager, and we look forward to announcing further details shortly.

As we now head into the long winter break, we hope that this time offers each of you space to rest, restore, and connect….whether through travel, quiet moments at home, or adventures with family and loved ones. Please take care, stay safe, and enjoy this special season in your own way.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back next term, refreshed and ready for the next chapter together.

Warmly,

Pep
