Reading
Our reading sessions will continue to focus on developing the student's fluency and comprehension strategies. We will read a variety of texts through shared storybook sessions, as well as reading a class novel “George’s Marvellous Medicine” by Roald Dahl. Students will have opportunities to develop their comprehension skills by predicting, inferring, questioning, making connections and summarising. Our focus will be ‘putting it all together’ to apply strategies for successful comprehension of texts.
Spelling
Students will continue their understanding of digraphs and less common letter sound relationships during our spelling sessions, following the InitiaLit program. We will focus on /tch/, /tion/, /or/, /ore/, /aw/ and /au/ spelling patterns before reviewing our knowledge from the year.
Writing
During our writing sessions, students will have opportunities to implement their spelling knowledge learnt through the InitiaLit program, as well as writing, using a variety of simple and compound sentences, working to incorporate vocabulary learnt from our reading and shared storybook sessions. Students will continue to deepen their understanding of persuasive techniques to write persuasive texts for specific audiences. They will also be engaging in narrative writing towards the end of the term.
Home Reading
Thank you for the support you give your child when they are reading at home and for making a note in their diary each day. This really does help to support and encourage good reading habits, practise effective reading strategies, and develop vocabulary.
