TERM 3 EXCURSIONS & INCURSIONS
Year 1s African Drummers Incursion
On Tuesday 21st July, as part of their Science of Sound unit in General Studies, our Year 1 students enjoyed an engaging visit from two African drummers. They learnt about sound, beat and rhythm while listening to energetic performances and had the opportunity to play the drums themselves. It was a fun and interactive experience for everyone!
Year 4s Aquarium Excursion
On Thursday 23rd July, our Year 4 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium. Throughout the day, they explored a variety of marine animals and habitats, gathered interesting facts, and observed sea creatures up close. It was a fantastic day of hands-on learning, and we look forward to reading the informative texts they create throughout the term.
Year 3s Brickworks Incursion
Also on Thursday 23rd July, our Year 3 students participated in an interesting Brickworks incursion as part of their General Studies unit on Stop Motion Animation. Throughout the workshop, students explored the importance of using their imagination when designing scenes and creating characters for possible animations. We look forward to seeing the imaginative stop motion animations they create by the end of the term.
Year 6s Mary Poppins Excursion
Our Year 6 students had a wonderful opportunity on Thursday 23rd July, attending a performance of Mary Poppins at Thomas Carr College. The excursion allowed students to experience live theatre, appreciate the performers' talents, and enjoy a much-loved musical.
100 DAYS OF PREP
This Friday 7th August, we are celebrating the Prep students completing 100 days of school. We are asking that students dress up as if they are 100 years old! Some dress up ideas may be grey hair spray, hair rollers, old shirts, glasses, walking sticks or suspenders etc.
The day will consist of a parade which we invite parents to join us for. After the parade the students will enjoy a day of fun activities to celebrate all their hard work at school so far. If you have any questions please check with your child's teacher.
BOOK WEEK 2026
Book Week is an annual national celebration of children's literature, Australian authors, and illustrators organised by the Children's Book Council of Australia. This year it runs from August 22 - 28 with the theme "Symphony of Stories." At St John’s we have a range of activities to do with the students throughout the week, culminating in a Book Week Parade on Friday 28th August @ 9:15 am. Our Book Week parade is a fun opportunity for students to dress up as their favorite book character.
CHILD SAFETY - NAVIGATING THE NEED FOR PARENTAL CONTROLS
All St John’s parents have access to our own Online Safety Parent Hub. The Hub provides a wealth of online safety resources, such as digital parenting guides, app reviews and articles. These have been developed by a team of leading digital safety and wellbeing experts. Parents also have access to free parental control tools to help keep children safe while using their personal devices.
This week we draw your attention to a great article on Navigating the Need for Parental Controls. Children have easy access to technology, and it's essential for parents to ensure their online experiences are safe.
Parents may find it challenging to monitor their child's tech use, especially if the child is more tech-savvy. Using parental control tools can be an effective way to protect and support children's online activities and reduce parental stress.
