Kindergarten News

Our outdoor space has been taken over by children! Our outdoor space was a hive of activity this week, with the children actively engaged in planning together, making decisions, using resources and making assessments. We asked the children what they wanted in their playground in the climbing space. We talked about high/low, bouncing, hanging, crawling, balancing and whether things were 'tricky' or not. The children can move resources around themselves to create obstacle courses, cubby houses, monster truck tracks and anything else they can think of. They had access to pipes, cable reels, crates, planks and boards and used the resources to create a structure that allowed them to use balls and experiment with trajectory and momentum. There was so much collaboration with the children helping each other move materials, make assessments, rearrange and stack.

Loose parts play involves providing children with open-ended, movable materials that can be carried, combined, and transformed in limitless ways. Objects that can be used in this approach empowers kids to drive their own play, fostering creativity, problem-solving, collaboration and critical thinking.

We'll continue adding resources over the term, including twist ties, large fabric pieces, rope, clips, carpet pieces etc...
