Head of Year 9 - Josette Mercieca

Article by Ryan Noye, Deputy Head of Year 9
Book Week provided a wonderful opportunity for our Year 9 students to share their time, enthusiasm and love of reading with our Junior School students. Across the week, Year 9 volunteers gave up their lunchtimes to read picture books to our prep students, bringing each story to life with plenty of energy and expression.
Following each reading, our Year 9 students facilitated a creative arts and crafts activity inspired by the book, allowing the Junior School students to extend the story through their own creativity. The enthusiasm from both groups was infectious, with our Year 9 students quickly discovering just how much their younger peers admired and adored them! It was fantastic to see our older students embrace their role as positive role models, showing patience, kindness and genuine care throughout each session.
The smiles, laughter and excitement captured in these photos are a wonderful reflection of the connections that were formed across our school community. A huge thank you to all of our Year 9 volunteers for making Book Week such a memorable experience for our Junior School students.
