Festival of Music – Concert 2 : Bands in Concert! 

Last Wednesday, the College bands took to the Clocktower stage for the Bands in Concert performance. It was a sensational evening of music, featuring more than 130 students across seven bands. 

The concert showcased the impressive range of talent, enthusiasm and commitment within the College’s band program. Several students performed in more than one ensemble, demonstrating not only their musical versatility but also their dedication to rehearsing and performing with multiple groups. 

Congratulations to all of the students involved for their hard work and commitment. A special thank you also goes to the staff who directed and supported the ensembles, and to everyone who contributed to making Bands in Concert such a successful and memorable event. 

Overnewton Win Battle of the Bands!!! 

Last Friday night, three of the College’s Rock Bands took to the stage at Penola College for a regional Battle of the Bands event. Hit by the Sun, Dented Ditz and Radium, featuring students from Years 9 to 12, delivered impressive performances that had the audience thoroughly entertained. 

The event provided a fantastic opportunity for our students to perform alongside other young musicians and showcase their developing skills, confidence and creativity in a live performance setting. All three bands embraced the experience with enthusiasm and energy, demonstrating the talent and commitment of our College musicians. 

There was further cause for celebration when Radium was awarded Best Band in the Junior section. This is a wonderful achievement and recognition of the band’s strong performance and musicianship. 

Adding to the success of the evening, Jaime from Hit by the Sun received an Excellence Award for his outstanding contribution and performance. 

Congratulations to all the students who performed on the night. Their enthusiasm, musicality and willingness to take to the stage are a credit to them and to the College’s thriving Rock Band program. 

VCE Students Excel 

Congratulations to our Unit 4 Music students who performed selections from their assessment programs at a concert on Monday evening. 

The concert featured an exciting and diverse range of music, spanning classical and contemporary styles, with sound sources as varied as digital keyboard and operatic voice. The performances provided a wonderful opportunity for the students to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and musical learning they have developed throughout their studies. This performance was an important part of their preparation for the upcoming VCAA assessment, where their performances will contribute to their final study scores and, ultimately, their ATAR.  

We wish all of our Unit 4 Music students every success as they continue to refine their programs and prepare for their final assessed performances.

The Festival Continues 

The Festival of Music wraps up next week with the Choral Showcase on Monday and Seussical Season 2 on Wednesday and Thursday.
