If you've ever walked through the gates of Seymour College, chances are you've crossed paths with a living legend – Greg Gibson. Greg is not just part of the furniture – he is part of the foundation. With 25 years of dedicated service under his belt – long before Seymour College was even called Seymour College. As the legendary VM (Vocational Major) assistant, he’s worn many hats, but it’s his heart, humour, and tireless commitment that have left the deepest mark. Greg knows everyone – every student, every parent, every story. He’s there when the sun’s barely up, running the beloved Breakfast Club, ensuring no one starts the day on an empty stomach. He’s the one they call when there’s a job to be done, a young person in need of support, or even a snake on campus (yes, he’s the unofficial Seymour snake catcher too!).

Greg loves a good practical joke so time to get him back.

Our Beloved VM Queen Returns! Ms Hayek, one of our most adored VM (Vocational Major) teachers, is back at it again—this time introducing the wonders of VM to our Year 10 WRS students! Having taught nearly every year level in secondary, she’s no stranger to inspiring young minds and making real-world learning exciting. But don’t be fooled by her classroom poise—this "princess teacher" isn’t afraid to get a little messy for a good cause! One of the few brave staff to participate in last year's splash-tastic event, Ms Hayek is returning for more... clearly, last year’s soak wasn’t enough! We can't wait to see her with her signature straight hair dripping wet and her makeup fabulously smudged—all in the name of fun and school spirit.

Looks like we’ll have to make the water extra cold this time—just for you, Ms Hayek!

Big Freeze Staff Representative – Humanities

Mr. Lovini is a dynamic English and Humanities teacher at Seymour College, known for their love of mythology (Roman, Greek, Norse – you name it!) and their deep care for students.

As our Secondary Marrung Leader, they’re a fierce advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, making Seymour a more inclusive and empowering place every day.

Mr Lovini is a proud non-binary educator whose path to the classroom has been anything but ordinary. With roots in both Aotearoa and Italy and a background in social work, Mr Lovini brings

authenticity, empathy, and a fierce commitment to social justice into everything they do.

With all that said about this fantastic teacher that Seymour College is lucky to have – surely there are some people out there who would love to see Mr Lovini very wet and cold.

Big Freeze Staff Representative – Maths

Meet Mr. Thorne – part math wiz, part mad scientist, and full-time legend. Known for his eternal winter jacket (seriously, it's seen more seasons than most TV shows), Mr. Thorne is the kind of teacher who literally lights up when talking about electricity. Back in his student days, he’d save math homework for last because it was the fun part. Yes – he’s that kind of nerd. You’ll often find him outside playing sport with the students, bringing just as much energy to the oval as he does to the whiteboard. Rumour has it, he still carries ancient lollies in his bag—possibly for experiments, possibly because he forgot they were there. Either way, step into his classroom and you’ll find equations, enthusiasm, and maybe a slightly suspicious butterscotch.

Mr. Thorne is the perfect blend of sporty and nerdy – a rare combo but surely parts of him relate to everyone. No doubt everyone will be lining up to see him wet, cold, and sliding into the ice for our Big Freeze!

Big Freeze Staff Representative – Secondary Inclusive

When he’s not deep in robotics or perfecting a timber project, you’ll likely find Mr. Stranieri jamming away on the bongo drums or taking a refreshing dip in the freezing bay… yes, even in the middle of winter! A true hands-on teacher and VPC legend, Mr Stranieri has a dream: to build an AI robot (with the help of his students, of course) that can not only replace him in the classroom but also play Iko Iko on the bongos. Ambitious? Yes. Impossible? Not with Mr Stranieri and his crew. Known for his love of cold, icy water, Mr. Stranieri is no stranger to a chilly challenge.

But just to make sure he really feels the love, we’re adding a little extra ice to the bucket. Bring on the frostbite, right Mr Stranieri?

New to our school this year, Ms Tobin has already made a big impression as our enthusiastic Disability Inclusion Leader and English teacher. Ms Tobin can be found living off cheese platters (no judgment here), blasting electronic music in her car the moment she leaves the school gates, and planning her upcoming wedding with style and grace. Add in a love of Pilates, tennis, and the eternal challenge of keeping the positivity alive for North Melbourne, and you've got someone who’s truly juggling it all—with energy, humour, and a whole lot of cheese.

Ms Tobin didn’t hesitate to volunteer for this year’s event showing us how lucky we are to have her. Now lets all show her how we welcome her to Seymour College.

Big Freeze Staff Representative – WELLBEING

Nick from wellbeing is our resident Star Wars expert—he loves his Lego and gets serious when people confuse Star Wars with Star Trek. He even thinks he’s a Jedi! (We’ve got the photo to prove it.) A huge Carlton fan, he’s always ready to chat footy and 2025 stats. Nick’s also a Marvel enthusiast, with Ms Marvel as his favourite hero. When he’s not working, you’ll find him snacking on air fryer chicken strips and killer python lollies, rocking shorts all year round to keep his tan, and proudly wearing his Seymour Lions gear – does he even own other clothes?

Nick is a born and breed Seymour boy – surely there are many who would like to see him very wet!

Between raising three kids, wrangling six siblings, and inspiring students as one of our fabulous art teachers, it’s a wonder Ms Ridd ever finds a moment to herself—but when she does, you’ll probably find her with a glass of wine in hand, toes in the sand, or shopping for the perfect outfit (or three). Ms. Ridd brings energy, colour, and flair to everything she does—whether she’s teaching, painting, or pampering her beloved cats, Dolly and Frankie. With her sharp eye for design and fashion, she’s got a wardrobe as vibrant as her personality.

We can’t wait to see how this beach-loving, wine-sipping, cat-cuddling legend handles what’s coming her way. Just don’t mess up her hair—or her outfit!
