Acknowledgement and Appreciation
I would like to thank the school/community for support me to complete the final component of my Unlocking Potential: Principal Preparation course. As part of this I was provided the opportunity to shadow Ben Slocombe Principal at Melrose Primary School. Throughout this experience I witnessed student learning, improved school culture and the unique characteristics of another school, things I will continue to refine and implement in my work at Mt Beauty SC.
It is important for me to thank Simone and the Leadership Team for their support in backfilling my position and planning for continued school success. Shantelle Stimson thrived in her time as Acting Assistant Principal and has shared with me highlights from the last 4.5 weeks.
Attendance at School
Every day of attendance matters, and this is especially true for non-school approved absences. While missing a single day may seem minor, absences add up quickly and can significantly impact a student's learning. The effects of school absences extend beyond the current year, influencing academic achievement in future years as well.
Diversity
Welcoming Student Differences
Victoria’s education system celebrates diversity and is committed to supporting the participation and achievement of all students. Inclusive education recognises that some students have additional needs or intersecting identities that may require specific considerations.
At Mount Beauty Secondary College, we encourage families to meet with us if students require curriculum or environmental adjustments. Likewise, if staff identify concerns, they will proactively reach out to families to discuss strategies for support.
Uniform
As we approach the final weeks of the school term and with building work disruptions now resolved it is important that students maintain high expectations around the school uniform. Below I have listed some important things to ensure before students leave the house:
- School uniform – all items are part of the school uniform (no CFA jumpers, sports shirts, sport shorts etc)
- School shoes – students require black school shoes. Students participating in PE require appropriate footwear to ensure safety. Students will be unable to participate if not in appropriate shoes and will not be able to play in bare feet.
- Appropriate uniform items – each uniform item must be worn as it is designed. We need students to mindful of the length of their uniform to ensure it meets the required length.
