Smashing Clays and Smokin’ Barrels
The highly anticipated North West Zone Championship was held on Thursday 13th September, with the Horsham Clay Target Gun Club hosting the competition. A total of 37 students from six schools competed on the day.
Firearm safety was paramount throughout the competition. The day began with a comprehensive safety briefing, with all firearms securely stored in the club’s armoury until students were under the direct supervision of officials. To further ensure the safety of all competitors, each shooting pad had a Judge, Scorer and two additional club volunteers supervising a group of no more than five students. These strict procedures ensured the competition was conducted in a safe and controlled environment.
Four students proudly represented Donald High School: Charlie, Marty, Hayden and Lyric. All four took on the challenge with enthusiasm and demonstrated improvement in their Down the Line shooting abilities.
Congratulations to Marty, who took out 3rd place in the Senior Boys with an impressive score of 17/20. Marty also managed to score a possible in the second round, smashing 10 out of 10 clays! Only three students achieved a perfect round on the day.
An honourable mention goes to Hayden, who hit an impressive 9/10 clays in his first round, while Charlie shot consistently across both rounds, smashing 8/10 in each.
As a celebratory reward for Marty’s achievements, it was off to KFC!
We would like to thank Donald Field & Game Life Member, Peter Pendlebury, for accompanying us to the shoot and generously sharing his coaching tips and expertise with our students. Also thank you to Charlie and BB Harvesting for pressure washing the school minibus.
Well done to all four students for proudly representing Donald High School and embracing the challenge!
