What Lent means to us

We often associate Lent with fasting or giving up something we enjoy, such as lollies or takeaway food. This is certainly a worthwhile endeavour. At this week’s Primary Assembly, I encouraged the children to use the money they would normally spend on a treat and donate it to the charity Caritas. This small sacrifice not only helps others but also reminds us how fortunate we are.

With the turmoil unfolding around the world at present, it is a particularly opportune time to reflect on our blessings here in Australia.

The reflection (pictured) is aimed more at adults, though you might like to discuss some of its points with your children in an age-appropriate way.

Georgia is up there with the best!

Congratulations to Georgia O'Hara (Secondary Maths) on being awarded her Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher Certificate. She attended a ceremony in Melbourne and was presented with the certificate by Nicole Jones, Acting Director of AITSL – Teaching and School Leadership, and Mary Oski, Director of Education Excellence at Melbourne Archdiocesan Catholic Schools. Georgia is one of only 2,000 teachers nationwide to have successfully completed this prestigious program offered by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).

Swimming Carnival

Our Swimming Carnival was a resounding success last week. A large number of students took part, with special congratulations to Charles House for winning this year’s trophy, and well done to all who competed. We extend particular thanks to Tyler Jamieson and his team of staff for their outstanding organisation of the event.

Sacramental Students

A number of St Anne's students have begun their sacramental journey this week. Year 3 students Willow, Emily, Jude, Mackenzie, Louis, Nate, Milana and Year 4 student Aidan were presented with booklets at Mass on Sunday, and we wish them and their families all the best as they prepare for their First Eucharist and Confirmation.
