SUSTAINABILITLY NEWS

Spring is here, and the Sustainability Team will soon be planting out some vegetable seeds! Keep an eye on our garden beds over the coming weeks — you might spot some new shoots appearing. Please allow our seedlings time to grow and develop before picking any produce. A big thank you to Tessa, our Crossing Supervisor, for donating the seeds!
With Halloween just around the corner, a reminder to everyone to think about our local wildlife as you decorate this year. You can find great ideas for bird, and wildlife-friendly, decorations on the Bird Life Australia website: birdlife.org.au/news/bird-safe-halloween-decorations.
Finally, we’re still on the lookout for community members to help us bring to life the actions identified by the Sustainability Team following our biodiversity audit. These include:
- Installing wildlife-friendly features (bird bath, bird and possum boxes, worm farm, lizard lounge, insect lodge, bat tube, etc.)
- Expanding our gardens with more herbs, veggies, fruit trees, bush foods, and an Indigenous garden
- Improving weed control, adding mulch, and creating spaces for both learning and wildlife
We need the help of our school community to bring these to life, so if you have skills, tools or materials to contribute please contact Lucy Rutten at lrutten@sjnorthcote.catholic.edu.au.
Together let's make our school grounds beautiful while supporting our local wildlife!
