School Council Meetings

The first meeting of the 2024 School Council is Wednesday 20th March at 7.30pm

The dates of the next Committee meetings are as follows:

Community Voice: Tuesday 7th May 6:30pm

Buildings, Grounds and Sustainability: Thursday 9th May 6:30pm

Finance: Wednesday 20th March 6:30pm

Parent Association: Thursday 21st March - 7.15pm

School Council Committees

The work of School Council happens within the committees and are an important aspect of its function and success. Our School Council has the following committees:

Finance - responsibilities include: reviews the monthly finance reports (including income and expenditure), discusses the spending priorities of the school, including liaising with PA on the priorities that may influence fundraising, discusses and recommends the parent voluntary contributions.

Community Voice - responsibilities include: coordinates the development and updating of school policies (ensuring input from parents, staff and students as required), discusses opportunities and issues that have a direct influence on student learning and wellbeing.

Buildings, Grounds and Sustainability - responsibilities include: identify opportunities for the development of the school's physical environment and assist the school in coordinating the work to be completed, organise working bees as required to assist in the maintenance of the grounds.

Sring Fair - responsibilities include: coordinating the running of the school's Spring Fair. We are looking for leaders for the following aspects:

Sponsorship
Marketing
Event Coordinator/Logistics
Head of General Stalls
Head of Food Stalls
Bump In and Bump Out

We also have a Grants Working Party operating this year. This working party will be responsible for identifying grants that the school could access and assisting in the submission process where appropriate.

Each year we call for members of the school community to join the committees. This is an opportunity for the school community to work on a committee that enables them to use their skills, offer their expertise or work on an area of interest.

By joining a committee there is no obligation to attend School Council, however you would be asked to meet at least twice a term with the committee. If you would like to become a member of a Committee or Working Party please register at the following link: https://forms.gle/pP4Z8h5BMZMV6kic7.

Message from out going School Council President.

Goodbye to much much loved community....

Farewell wonderful MPS families. It has been my great pleasure serving the community as a member of the School Council and as President for the past 4 years. Proudly, the school has grown and developed in many ways, especially in the student's voice and agency. a key aim of schools Strategic Plan. This has brought new opportunities for the children to explore and become involved in. For example the revered music program, Yiipirinya grade 6 camp and the student lead, Wurundjeri Voice Committee and all their activities to connect to aboriginal culture.

Reflecting on a decade at MPS, my 2 children were very happy. Now they navigate high school with much enthusiasm and effort, in part a foundation provided by the MPS experience.

The difference between greatest vs good leadership has been well documented as Will and Humility.; And the Leaders, Robyn James, Cadell Duke and Ben Parker have that in spades, strongly supported by Jeanette Davies another incredibly talented human. A pleasure working with you all. I will miss you. Thank you for supporting me.

Thank you to the extraordinary efforts of the MPS Parent Association. Your thoughtful consideration of all outreach events always match the values of the school and provide opportunities for the community to participate in.

Finally I thank the members of the school counciI that I have worked with, for their dedication and commitment to the school community. You are inspiring. All the best in your stewardship of the school.

I was always told, you don't need to be brave all the time, just some times. So I am pleased I went out on the skinny branches, and put my hand up for school council. I have learnt alot and it has been a great pleasure.
