FRIDAY 21 AUGUST 2026

STUDENT VOICE AT PARLIAMENT || Some of our Year 9 and 10 students had the fantastic opportunity to represent Beaumaris Secondary College at the Parliament of Victoria today as part of the National Council of Women Victoria’s My Vote My Voice event.

Presenting in the Legislative Council Chamber on the topic ‘How AI Affects your Education’, our students spoke confidently and articulately, sharing thoughtful perspectives on the impact of AI on their learning and education experiences alongside students from 11 other schools across Melbourne.

Following the student presentations, a panel featuring AI safety advocate Sarah Barnbrook, Dr Jackie Watts OAM and keynote speaker Dr Rumbi Nyanhoto responded to the ideas and perspectives shared by students.

A wonderful opportunity for our students to have their voices heard on an issue that is shaping the future of education.

SUNDAY 23 AUGUST 2026

THAT’S A WRAP! || What an incredible few days for our 2026 College Production of Rock of Ages! Congratulations to everyone involved on three fantastic performances and a wonderful celebration of the performing arts at BSC.

Months of rehearsals, preparation and hard work went into bringing the show to the stage. From the student rock band performing every note live to the student-led production team working behind the scenes, it was fantastic to see so many of our students bringing their talents to every aspect of the production.

We couldn’t be prouder of everything our students and staff achieved together.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in the audience and supported this year’s production.

SCIENCE WEEK ESCAPE ROOM || Our students put their problem-solving skills to the test in the S.E.E.D. Vault Escape Room last week, working in teams to solve a series of science-based clues involving evolution, light and motion.

The Escape Room was one of a range of lunchtime activities run by the BEST team as part of National Science Week (15–23 August). Throughout the week, students also had the opportunity to take part in a LEGO Design Challenge, make seed bombs with Australian natives, join Attenborough Club, test their knowledge with Science Trivia and help decorate staff lab coats.

Thanks to the BEST team for putting together a great week of activities and to all the students who got involved!

SIMULATOR BABIES || Our Year 11 Health and Human Development students are stepping into the shoes of parents to explore the complexities of parenting. Through our baby simulators, students are gaining hands-on experience and an insight into the responsibilities involved in caring for a baby. Each student has a simulator baby for 24 hours, during which they need to respond to its needs – feeding, changing nappies, burping and rocking it!

YEAR 11 PHYSICS || Our Year 11 Physics students put their understanding of structures and static equilibrium to the test with a bridge-building challenge! Using just spaghetti and hot glue, students were tasked with constructing a 60 gram bridge capable of spanning 20cm. The finished bridges were then put to the ultimate test, with hanging mass gradually added until they reached breaking point! A great hands-on way to put physics principles into practice.

HAPPY AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL LIBRARY DAY! || Today we’re celebrating our wonderful library and Library Manager, Niamh McPhelimy. From our extensive, curated collection of books that students can enjoy during session breaks, lunchtime and silent reading classes to the regular book reviews Niamh shares in our fortnightly newsletter, our library plays an important role in fostering a love of reading across our college.

This year’s theme, School Libraries: The Best Investment, is a fitting reminder of the value a great school library brings to our students. Thank you, Niamh, for everything you do to make our library such a vibrant part of BSC!

WEAR IT PURPLE DAY || Today, our college community came together to celebrate Wear It Purple Day and recognise the importance of diversity, inclusion and belonging. During GOAL, students learnt more about Wear It Purple Day and created purple gratitude cards, sharing messages of gratitude and appreciation for members of our school community. At lunchtime, our Beauy Pride Club hosted purple chalk drawing outside, adding a splash of purple to the college.

Gold coin donations also raised funds for Minus18, helping support LGBTQIA+ young people across Australia.

Thank you to our Beauy Pride Club for supporting this wonderful initiative, and to all students and staff who embraced the day. It was fantastic to see our GOAL program providing another opportunity for students to come together and contribute to a more inclusive and supportive school community.
