Heads of Secondary Years' Report

To our wonderful Hazel Glen community,
Thank you for an incredible Semester 1. We are immensely proud of our students and the commitment they have demonstrated towards their learning, as well as the positive relationships they continue to build with their peers and teachers.
The past two weeks have been particularly enriching in Secondary Years, with highlights including the Year 12 Formal and a range of extracurricular events and excursions. This period is especially meaningful as we witness many students who began their journey at Hazel Glen in our inaugural year as Prep students now celebrating their final Year 12 milestones and achievements.
Last week, our Year 7 students had the valuable opportunity to visit the Holocaust Museum, deepening their understanding of historical events that connect with their current English text study. This week, Year 7 students also participated in programs designed to strengthen their understanding of respectful relationships through the Big Sister Program and the Year 7 Boys Program.
In addition, our senior students have attended Chemistry excursions and Theatre Studies incursions over the past few weeks. We extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated teaching staff for the time, care, and effort they invest in planning and delivering these engaging learning experiences beyond the classroom.
We would also like to acknowledge the hard work, focus, and dedication demonstrated by our Year 10 and 11 students as they successfully completed their Semester 1 examinations this week. Students can expect to receive their examination results within two weeks of completing their exams, with results available through Compass.
Semester Reports are now available for students and families to access via Compass. These reports provide an opportunity to formally communicate student achievement and effort across the semester. Compass Learning Tasks are regularly updated throughout the term to ensure students and families have ongoing access to information regarding achievement and progress. Please note that assessment rubric results for Years 7–10 can be viewed through the web browser version of Compass.
Looking ahead to next term, we will begin the subject selection process for students currently in Years 8–11. Subject selection is an exciting opportunity for students to exercise greater autonomy and make choices that align with their interests, strengths, and future aspirations. We encourage families to keep an eye on the Compass News Feed early next term for important information and reminders regarding this process. Year 10 students and their parents or guardians will also participate in Course Counselling Day following the Pathways Information Night.
A final highlight of the semester was the opportunity for students and staff to come together in the gymnasium to watch the Australia vs Paraguay Women's World Cup match, organised by our Health and Physical Education Department. Experiences such as these help foster connection, school spirit, and a sense of community, while providing students with positive and memorable extracurricular opportunities.
Thank you to our Hazel Glen community for your ongoing support throughout Semester 1. We wish all students, families, and staff a safe, restful, and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to welcoming students back on site on Tuesday 14 July.
Warm regards,
