School Sport Australia National Cross Country Championships
Jonah T and Lewie L were representing Team Vic at the School Sports Australia National Cross Country Championships for 10-12 years. The championship was held at Runaway Bay Sports Precinct on the Gold Coast between 7th-10th September.
On Day 1 of competition (Monday) the boys ran their individual race (3km) for their respective age groups. Your rank in the individual race also contributed to points for your State and hence there was a team medal allocated (Jonah and U11 boys received a Bronze and Lewie’s U12 boys received a Gold medal)
On Day 2 the athletes from all states joined together for the Championship Team Experience at SeaWorld Marine Park. Students participated in an educational program, ‘Affinity Dolphin’ presentation followed by an ‘In depth with Dolphins’ program.
On Day 3 the students were back on the track for the Relay events where every team had 6 runners each completing 1500m each. Jonah and the U11 boys were able to go one better than Monday and pipped Team NSW in the final leg to win by 2 sec and secure the Silver medal. Lewie and the U12 boys were just too strong and secured their second Team Gold medal for the championship.
They both represented Auburn South so well and we’re very proud of their achievements because there’s been a lot of training behind the scenes that’s gone into these results.

Chess Award
Wenzhi C 5B has won a trophy for a chess tournament representing Auburn South Primary School - he said he scored a perfect score but didn’t win the whole thing because he was the only one from the school, he said if he had people to make a team then they would win the whole thing!
