Hi, I’m Oscar, one of the F.I.R.E. Carriers of 2025. In the past Indigenous people didn't have the resources like we do today. They had to be creative and come up with games of their own.

A popular game that they created and played was Tarnambai. Tarnambai is a fun and popular game originating from northern Queensland, and in english it means “running”. This is a run and chase game where a ball is rolled and returned to the starting line. You need a tennis ball for each team, two lines, 10 to 20 meters apart and teams of two players. One of the players in each team starts at the first line and bowls a ball to the second line. The other teammate of each team runs to get it, and brings it back to the bowler, after it goes over the second line. After, they swap bowlers.

In 2026, the FIRE Carrier program at OLA will see some exciting changes. From next year, the program will be led by our Grade 5 student leaders. This adjustment allows our Grade 6 leaders to focus on other leadership opportunities, while also providing Grade 5 students with the chance to showcase their leadership skills.

We congratulate our newly elected 2026 FIRE Carriers:

Sophia K, Sophie M, Ella Pe and Cleo V.
