Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,

As we move through another productive and exciting week, it has been wonderful to see our school community come together to celebrate learning, friendships and the many special moments that make Heidelberg Primary School such a vibrant place.

One of this week's highlights was celebrating our Foundation students reaching 100 Days of School. What a great milestone! It has been amazing to reflect on just how much our youngest learners have grown since their very first day at school. From building friendships and developing independence to making enormous progress in their learning, our Foundation students have achieved so much in their first 100 days. The smiles, creativity and enthusiasm on display during the celebrations were a wonderful reminder of the joy of learning. Congratulations to all of our Foundation students, teachers and families on the creative and cute costumes that all contrubuted to a memorable event!

Another fantastic highlight was our Annual Heidelberg Primary School Disco, which transformed into a colourful Hawaiian celebration on Friday evening. It was wonderful to see students from across the school enjoying time together, dancing the night away and embracing the theme with such enthusiasm. The incredible costumes, tropical shirts, leis and bright colours certainly brought plenty of fun and energy to the evening.

Events like these are only possible because of the generosity and commitment of so many people. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated organising committee for the many hours spent planning such a successful event, and to our wonderful parent volunteers who generously gave their time on the night to help everything run so smoothly. Thank you also to our fantastic DJ, who kept the dance floor buzzing all evening, and to our Assistant Principals, Helen and Monique, whose support and committment helped make the event such a success. Most importantly, thank you to our students for bringing such incredible energy, enthusiasm and school spirit—it was a joy to see everyone having so much fun together.

These moments of celebration remind us of the importance of creating opportunities for our students and families to connect beyond the classroom. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this week so memorable.

Leadership Learning Beyond Our School

At Heidelberg Primary School, we are committed to continually improving the learning and wellbeing outcomes for every student. One of the ways we achieve this is by learning alongside other schools and sharing effective practice.

Over the past 18 months, our principal class team has been part of a collaborative School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) Community of Practice with our neighbouring schools, Bundoora Primary School and Diamond Creek Primary School. Together, we have participated in regular learning walks, opened our classrooms to one another, and engaged in professional conversations focused on strengthening positive school culture and consistent behaviour support practices.

Although each school is at a different stage of its SWPBS journey, this partnership has reinforced that every school has valuable experiences to share and opportunities to learn from one another. At Heidelberg Primary School, our focus has been on strengthening the consistency of our practices, refining behaviour processes, improving the recording and celebration of positive behaviours, and ensuring our school values are visible in everyday learning. On Thursday, we were honoured to be invited to present our collaborative work to a wider audience of principals and leadership teams from across the network as an example of excellent practice in school improvement. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase not only the impact of our partnership but also the dedication of our staff in creating a positive, respectful and inclusive learning environment for all students.

We are incredibly proud of the work our leadership team and staff continue to undertake. By embracing collaboration, professional curiosity and a commitment to continuous improvement, we ensure Heidelberg Primary School remains a place where both students and staff thrive.
