Microfiction winners

This week saw the announcement of the winning stories and authors for the 2026 Microfiction Competition. This year’s competition drew over 200 total entries from across the school, with Year 12’s English Extension 2 student Joshua Booth taking out first prize. There were $800 worth of prizes given out to the successful authors, with further prizes to come when the final book is published later in Term 3. This competition could not run to the same level without the generous support of the College P&F, who once again donated our prize pool.

This year, students were asked to write a 100-word story containing the action of 'beholding' and the word 'portrait'. The award winners are listed below and their stories can be read in the attachment:

Languages

French Club

Last week, French Club demonstrated great skill, determination and friendly rivalry in learning and playing the French game of Pétanque. 

This week, French Club members practised ordering crêpes in French through fun role-play conversations. We learnt useful phrases for ordering food, improved our pronunciation, and gained confidence speaking in real-life situations. It was an enjoyable and interactive way to experience French language and culture!

French Club is open to all senior school students and is run on Monday lunchtimes in A4!

Summer Art Lab

ArtLab is a vibrant extension of the SPX Cocurricular.  Summer ArtLab is now open for registrations. The Summer ArtLab program is designed especially for students in Years 5–7. 

Summer ArtLab offers a structured and inclusive space for younger students to explore Visual Arts beyond the classroom, nurturing creativity during a key stage of development.

Through hands-on activities, students will build foundational skills, express themselves freely, and engage with art history and cultural diversity in a fun, non-assessed environment. 

The program also fosters wellbeing and belonging, providing a supportive space for social connection and emotional growth.

A unique feature of Summer ArtLab is its cross-age mentoring model, with recent graduates helping to facilitate sessions, strengthening community ties and leadership pathways within the College.

We look forward to seeing our young artists thrive as confident creators and curious thinkers in this exciting new program! Places are limited to 15, so register early via Clipboard.

Maths Drop-In continues this week.

Maths Drop-In is the perfect opportunity to revise key concepts, ask questions, work through challenging problems, or simply study alongside your peers in a supportive environment.

Whether you're preparing for an upcoming assessment, catching up on classwork, or wanting to strengthen your understanding, everyone is welcome.
