Fixtures
From the Assistant Principal, Cocurricular
I wish all teams well as they play in their final rounds proper in both tennis and football before moving to finals next week. Football will play a semi-final round (either home or away), whilst tennis moves straight to the finals round. The grand final for football will be at the end of Week 5.
We wish our rugby teams all the best as they travel to Bathurst for the semi-final 'super round', which involves all ISA schools at various venues around Bathurst.
Summer registrations have opened in most sports in Clipboard and I would ask that you register your son's intent to play a summer sport at your earliest opportunity.
Senior School Summer Touch Football
We are currently discussing the viability of introducing summer touch football in the senior school. We will have a final decision around this by next week.
First XI Cricket Coach
It is with great pleasure that I announce Mr James Maloney as the college's new 1st XI cricket coach. Mr Maloney has significant experience at 1st XI schoolboy level, notably, coaching Waverley College to a CAS Premiership and also taking on the role of Combined CAS 1st XI coach at his time at Waverley. More recently, Mr Maloney has been our skills coach at St Pius X, working with both 1st and 2nd XI teams.
Mr Maloney takes over the role following the departure of Mr Pat Rodgers who successfully held the role for a number of years and leaves as ISA 1st XI Premiers coach for the 2025/26 season. We thank Mr Rodgers for his years of service to cricket at the college.
Mr Matt Stearn - Assistant Principal, Cocurricular

ISA Basketball 2026/27 Registrations
Clipboard registrations are OPEN
Thank you to the families who have already completed their registration for the upcoming ISA Basketball season. Your prompt response is greatly appreciated.
At this stage, registrations have been slower than anticipated. As we are required to submit and confirm team nominations with the ISA in the coming weeks, we ask all families intending to participate to complete their registration as soon as practically possible.
Please note that team caps are once again in place this year. Families are strongly encouraged to register early to avoid disappointment, as places cannot be guaranteed once team limits have been reached.
Important Information
Any Year 7 student who participated in the Term 1 Preseason Competition is not required to register for the upcoming season. All Year 7 students wishing to join are welcome.
SPX will aim to field A-F teams in each age group where numbers permit. If numbers remain low, we will reduce the numbers of teams entered to ISA.
In the 13s and 14s age groups, we also run internal development squads for players who are not selected in an ISA team. All internal development squad games are played at Oxford Falls on Saturday mornings.
13s–17s Grading Information
Please see the draft Basketball Grading Schedule below.
Please note that due to ongoing works in both the SPX Gym and at Oxford Falls, all grading times, dates and venues remain subject to change. Any amendments will be communicated promptly to students and families via the usual school communication channels.
Students are only eligible to attend grading sessions if they have completed their registration through Clipboard prior to the scheduled session.
All grading updates and additional information will also be published on the Basketball section of the Canvas Cocurricular Page. Families are encouraged to monitor Canvas regularly throughout the grading period for the latest information.

1st XI and 2nd XI ISA Cricket – Season 2026/27
The 1st XI and 2nd XI ISA Cricket season is fast approaching. Player net trials and training commence on Thursday 27 August 2026 at Oxford Falls.
All players must register for the College on both Clipboard and PlayHQ. Players intending to play ISA should register under Stage 3.
Please find attached the 1st & 2nd XI – ISA Cricket 2026/27 season outline. Prospective players and parents are requested to familiarise themselves with this document prior to the first training session.
Cricket Registrations — 2026/27 Season
Registrations for the 2026/27 cricket season are now open. Both registrations must be completed by Friday 7 August for both Junior and Senior School students.
Registration requirements
Each player is required to complete two separate registrations:
School sign-up via Clipboard, indicating your son's intention to play cricket for the College. Please select the dedicated cricket registration form, which is available through the College's Clipboard App and can be accessed via the College website.
MWJCA registration via PlayHQ, which registers your son with the association for team placement.
A player is not considered registered until both registrations have been completed.

Any questions regarding cricket registration should be directed to Mr Balboa at RBalboa@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.
Expressions of Interest: Old Boy Cricket Coaches - MWJCA
Expressions of interest are invited from Year 12 students graduating in 2026, as well as recent Old Boys who would like to become involved as Old Boy coaches for the upcoming MWJCA cricket season.
Coaches will support College teams during Saturday match days, with the season commencing on Saturday 12 September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for students to remain connected with the College, share their cricket knowledge and provide positive leadership and encouragement to younger players. There will be possible opportunities to pursue basic Coaching Qualifications to support those who may be interested.
Students who are interested are asked to email Mr Balboa - RBalboa@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au, outlining their cricket experience and Saturday availability. It is an expectation that prospective applicants will be available for the 2026/27 Season.
Mr Ryan Balboa - MWJCA Cricket Convenor
Football
This weekend is the final weekend of round games in the ISA and the conclusion of our internals program. Final standings and semi final draws will be released by the ISA early to mid next week.
This Saturday, all football teams will have their official team photos prior to their game at Oxford Falls. All players need to be in their correct playing kit, including boots.
Photos will take place in the Multi-Purpose Room in the Treacy Centre. Players should meet their coaches at their allocated time, ready for their photo along with their Student ID Card.
Players not in their correct uniform will not be able to be in the photo.
The timetable for photos is below.

Squash
Week 1 Competition
Week 1 Competition games start this Saturday, keep a look out on squash NSW website for game times. All games will be posted on Canvas when I receive them.
It was great to meet the players at training last week. Our coach Jacob put the team through some good skill developments with a focus on serving, and we are lucky to have such a dedicated and highly skilled coach. We have a talented team of players at St Pius Squash, and I look forward to the season.
Training this week cancelled
Training for Squash will be cancelled this week Thursday 6 August as we have an afternoon college staff meeting.
Key dates for squash
I am still awaiting the draw for Term 3 and will let you know via Canvas when I receive it.
