Grade 5/6 Poetry

Our Year 5/6 students have been hard at work this term exploring the craft of poetry!
They've drawn inspiration from classic verse, including Alfred Noyes' atmospheric "The Highwayman," Rudyard Kipling's rhythmic "The Secret of the Machines," and Dorothea Mackellar's iconic "My Country." Through these poems, students have studied how poets use rhyme, repetition, and vivid imagery to bring their writing to life.
Along the way, they've been busy drafting, revising, and publishing their own original poems — building confidence as writers while discovering the power of language to tell a story or paint a picture.
