Devotion

Security

The story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den reads like a movie script, filled with intrigue and drama! Check out Daniel 6 in the bible for the whole story.

There’s Daniel, the loyal, faithful and trustworthy governor to the king. A king, a few lions and some other Royal governors... who were intensely jealous of Daniel’s position...

Aware of Daniel’s steadfast devotion to God and his regular communication through prayer, they devise a cunning plan where all requests were to be made directly to the king or there will be dire consequences!  The king thinks this is great and a law is passed.

What will Daniel do? Compromise his relationship with God to save his own skin, or stand strong? Stand strong of course!

Caught, in prayer to God, he is brought before the king. The king, who actually liked Daniel, is also caught... unable to break the law he imposed.

Daniel is thrown into the torturous Lion’s Den...

What happens next is what movie writers would call a plot twist...

God is in the picture, and Daniel is God’s precious child... Would he abandon him now? Never! He sent his angels to close the mouths of the lions!

In the morning Daniel emerged safe and sound, while the other governors were swiftly dealt with.

At Wednesday Worship we saw a creative, child-friendly version of this.

Our ‘Daniel’ was protected by ‘angels’ (holding umbrellas) from the water spray bottles that the ‘lions’ used to ‘get’ him. They were powerless and ‘Daniel’ emerged totally dry from the experience.

God is our security. In life we face many twists and turns... Some challenge us to the core. But like Daniel, when we hold fast to God, we know that He holds us even tighter... Our security is in him!

Can you help?

We have continued to be blessed to have a couple people from our school family step up to serve tea and coffee before and after our Wednesday Worship (Chapel)...

I am very grateful for this, however, I would dearly appreciate hearing from some others who might be able to help serve in this way. This small and gracious gesture is just one way that we ‘do life’ together as a Good Shepherd Family... and having something warm to hold on these cool mornings is extra nice!

If this is you, please come and have a chat (over a coffee perhaps) or email me (Georgie) here.
