Principal Report

It has been a busy and exciting start to Term 3 at Glen Innes High School, and we have truly hit the ground running. We began the term in partnership with our colleagues from Glen Innes Public School, completing training in the Berry Street Education Model. This relationship-based approach equips our staff with practical strategies to build positive connections with students, support wellbeing, and foster resilience. The focus on emotional regulation and strong relationships will be woven throughout our school routines, helping us create an even more supportive, engaging, and inclusive environment for every student.

Next week marks an important highlight as we celebrate Education Week, with the inspiring theme “Inspiring Excellence.” This theme is especially meaningful for our community. It reminds us that excellence isn’t just about high marks or awards, but is found in every effort, every creative idea, every act of kindness, and in the courage to try something new. We are committed to recognising and nurturing these qualities, helping our students discover and build upon their strengths in all areas of school life. Our program for Education Week is broad and varied—students will take part in High Potential and Gifted Education activities, agricultural and chess challenges, and we’ll welcome students from our local primary schools to join us on site, contributing to a vibrant sense of collaboration and community.

One of the most exciting elements of Education Week this year is the Alumni Event, where some of our past students will return to Glen Innes High School to share their journeys since graduating. Hearing firsthand from those who walked these halls before, and seeing how their experiences at GIHS helped shape their paths, is a powerful way to inspire excellence in current students. These stories from our Alumni reinforce that success comes in many forms and that the foundations built at our school last a lifetime. The event also reminds us of the strong ties woven throughout our school’s history, bringing together generations in celebration of learning, growth, and achievement.

“Inspiring Excellence” is a shared mission, and achieving it is a collaborative journey for all at Glen Innes High School. It’s created every day by our dedicated teachers, curious and hardworking students, supportive families, and active community members. When we work together—sharing ideas, supporting one another, and celebrating both efforts and outcomes—we create an environment where every individual has the encouragement and opportunity to strive for their best. Excellence thrives in positive relationships, in resilience through challenges, and in the collective spirit of our school community.

Looking ahead, we are also excited about our planning for Glen Innes High School’s centenary celebration in 2027. The big celebration weekend will be held on September 4th and 5th, and we encourage everyone to dig out their old photos or memorabilia and to get in touch with the school.
