Senior School News

Upper Secondary (Years 9-10)
The year 9/10 Students have been working hard to prepare for their winter fete stalls. On the winter fete day the students sold lolly bags, plants, key rings, phone charms, dim sims and spring rolls. These items were hand picked and creatively made by the students which they sold themselves. It was a huge success and they all did such a great job interacting with customers!
Senior Secondary (VPC/ASDAN)
Today in cookery they did theory work on contamination. They also calibrated thermometers, using hot and cold.
Australian's Biggest Morning Tea
Last Monday Students in VPC hosted the biggest morning tea. Raising money for the cancer council. Students organised the event, invited friend, family and leadership.
The Morning was a great success, students raising $290!
Thanks to the family, friends and staff who supported the VPC students.
Senior secondary @Victoria University
Students from Senior Secondary attend Victoria University on Fridays to participate in Hospitality and Cookery courses. Both courses teach our students skills they would need if they wanted to work in the hospitality industry.
In cookery they learn a range of cutting styles and cooking techniques and cook in an industrial kitchen just like working in a café or restaurant. They get to cook (and eat) a variety of different foods which they make from fresh ingredients.
In Hospitality they learn how to make different types of drinks, ranging from different coffees to mocktails. They also learn about different areas of customer service within the hospitality industry.
Week 10 and the final week of Term 2 already. ASDAN students have been finalising their work in the kitchen making hot and cold drinks and planning healthy meal menus.
Organising and Planning their final excursions to the local library and shopping areas and for 11/12C, the City. Safety and Problem Solving have also been a focus both in and out of school with students being encouraged to communicate with people who can help.
Work Experience and courses continue next term for all, in or out of school. 11/12 C said goodbye to Mambourin for the term, as in term 3 they will be going to Wallara, formerly Brite Industries, to learn some new skills on the job!
Last week parents were invited to visit Mambourin to see the Warehousing skills their child has been learning this term and I hope it gave them some ideas for the future.
On Friday we say goodbye to term 2 with our usual celebration lunch of fish and chips. We wish you all a safe and restful holiday – stay warm and we will see you all on Tuesday 14th July when we will be also celebrating NAIDOC week.
