PLAY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

The PLAY (Positivity, Leadership and Activated Youth) Program is a student leadership initiative that empowers our Grade 5 and 6 students to organise and lead fun, inclusive games and activities for younger students during lunchtime. The program encourages active play, builds positive relationships across year levels, and helps create a safe, welcoming playground where everyone feels included.

 

The PLAY Program benefits both the senior students who lead the activities and the younger students who participate. Our student leaders develop valuable skills such as leadership, communication, teamwork, responsibility and problem-solving, while younger students enjoy opportunities to be active, make new friends, build confidence and strengthen their social skills through positive play experiences. 

 

Our PLAY Leaders are easily identified by their bright orange vests and run activities and games three times a week.

Brooklyn - 5A

I like the PLAY program because it's fun leading the various games with the younger students and teaching them how to play. It's good for the younger kids because it helps them to have someone to play with at lunch time so they are not bored or lonely. It's also good because when they are older, they might think about becoming a Play Leader themselves. I would recommend other kids to sign up to become a Play Leader and to do the training next year. The training was a lot of fun. Personally, the program has helped me to be more confident. My favourite game to play is 'In the Water, Out the Water' because it's a fun game and it teaches kids how to listen and follow instructions. 

 

Alyssa - 5B

I teach children new games, encourage them to join in, and make sure everyone has fun with a smile on their face. Most kids like the Poison Game the best because they get to be 'pranked' and then run away so they are not caught. Being a PLAY leader has helped me to make friends and it's helped me be more confident when giving instructions to the younger kids. 

 

Ethan - 6A

The PLAY program is an amazing program because it's putting smiles on kids' faces. It gives children who may be feeling lonely or experiencing bullying the opportunity to have fun, make friends and enjoy school. The program has helped me become a better leader and build my teamwork skills. This is my second year as a Play Leader, and I would highly recommend it to any Grade 4 or 5 student who is thinking about applying next year. It is a fantastic experience and the training day was lots of fun. The most popular games seem to be 'Poison' and 'Please Hungry Crocodile'. The younger kids that play with us get excited about joining in the games every time. 

 

Isabel - 6B

I like how the Play Program helps little kids because they have an opportunity to be entertained outside during lunchtime and it helps kids that are lonely. They learn how to be social, how to listen and follow instructions. The Play Program has helped me to develop my leadership skills further and be more accountable when supervising younger children.
