Class Placement Policy

Class Placements for 2026
How We Build Balanced and Supportive Learning Environments at Truganina College
As we begin the 2026 school year, we would like to share how class placements are created at Truganina College. Our Class Placement Policy guides this work to ensure every child is placed in an environment that supports their academic, social and emotional development.
How Class Placements Are Formed
Planning began months before the end of the 2025 and involves a thoughtful and collaborative process between teachers and the leadership team. We have considered a wide range of factors including:
- Academic needs
- Social and emotional wellbeing
- Learning styles
- Teacher recommendations
- Existing support plans
Our goal is always to create balanced and effective learning environments that give every student the best opportunity to succeed.
Requests About Friendships
We recognise the importance of positive friendship groups in supporting student wellbeing and engagement. Whilst we have already welcomed requests from families at the end of last year, we also value the opportunity for students to form new friendships and work with a range of peers. All friendship considerations have been weighed carefully alongside the factors listed above.
Requests About Teachers
We are proud of our team of dedicated and highly committed educators at Truganina College. Class teachers are allocated based on student needs, teacher expertise and the creation of balanced classes.
Please note that students will not be moved between classes now that the school year has begun, except in exceptional circumstances. Where a change may be required, we work collaboratively with families, teachers, the student and relevant support staff.
Working Together
Every decision is made with care and with the best interests of students at the centre. More information about our Class Placement Policy is available on our school website.
