Mr. Barclay's Briefing!

Hello NPS families.

Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the devastating disaster in Nepal and extend our thoughts to all those who have been affected. As a school and wider school community, we are thinking of everyone impacted during this incredibly difficult time.

As we continue to keep those affected in our thoughts, I would like to turn our attention to what has been a wonderful couple of weeks for our school community. We continue to work through each week, making sure that not only are our teaching and learning programs on point, but our students are connected and engaged with all that happens. 

I am very excited to share and announce the launch of our brand-new school website! It looks sensational, and I hope that you enjoy exploring it. Today, Mr. McKinnnis and I have been attending the VPA (Victorian Principals Conference), and our website developer has been using our Website as their showcase piece. We've received some VERY positive feedback!

I'll begin by acknowledging our wonderful western-themed Trivia Night that took place two weeks ago. It was an absolutely GREAT night, and as shared at assembly last week, I am thrilled to announce that we raised approx $9,500 for our great school! These funds will go towards updating outdoor furniture and school signage.  A massive thank you to everyone who came along, dressed up, and got into the spirit of the evening.

I'd especially like to thank our incredible team of volunteers and helpers, namely Ali and Renee, who spent countless hours organising, setting up, and packing down. This event simply wouldn't be possible without their generosity and hard work, thank you.

Book Week was once again a highlight of the school calendar and took place this Monday. A huge thank you to Marsha for her wonderful organisation in bringing the whole event together. And of course, thank you to all the families and students who dressed up and celebrated -  the costumes and enthusiasm never disappoint. It's always a great even and this year was no exception. Thankfully, I have my outfit sorted already for 2027, as running around the night before is far from ideal!

This week, and hopefully your children have told you all about this, our students have had the wonderful opportunity to take part in an Indonesian immersion experience. We've been visited by Bayu, who is over from Indonesia and has been staying with Ibu Jones and her family! It's been a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage with Indonesian language and culture firsthand, with our F-2s working on their Indonesian dancing skills and our 3-6 students doing some cooking. 

Next week, a group of our students will be heading off to represent our school at the Divisional Athletics carnival. I want to wish them all the very best of luck and I am sure they'll go out there and do their absolute best.

Finally, don't forget, our Father's Day Breakfast is on next Friday! We'd love to see all our dads, grandads, father figures and special people there for a morning of bacon and egg rolls. A coffee van will also be on site.

Hi, I'm Lisa Maher and I teach the Grade 1/2 class JLM here at Newtown Primary School. 

My students were asked the question "Tell me what you know about Ms Maher."

I also chose to answer the slightly more important question "What does Mrs Maher love about JLM?" Needless to say, there was plenty to say!
