Yana-y Maal (Walk as One) St Pius Cultural Immersion

During Week 7 twenty year ten students from St Pius College in Bathurst embarked on a four day cultural immersion throughout the Armidale Catholic Schools Diocese. This included school visits to McCarthy Catholic College Tamworth, St Joseph's Tamworth and St Edwards Tamworth where all schools showcased the Wii Gaay and Warraymalaya Programs, in addition to how culture is embedded meaningfully throughout the Diocese.  Each school hosted a tour of the facilities which wowed the St Pius students and staff. On Country learning was an essential component of the immersion and included Smokings and Welcomes, as well as sharing of traditional knowledge, dance and artefact demonstrations, education in culturally safe conservation techniques with the Junior Rangers and a visit to the Myall Creek Massacre site. Highlights for St Pius were the exceptional quality of our schools inside and out, the level of academic and cultural opportunities in our schools and the deep, unique connection to Country and culture experienced on each and every day.
