Principal News

Dear Marian Catholic College,

Students have settled well into their learning and activities for Term 3, with a very busy term of activities scheduled. Already there have been a number of activities, and a  whole host of sporting events. Our thanks to families, students and the staff supporting these events and activities who make it all possible.

Sports included the final Bill Turner Soccer Riverina finals, BISSA Athletics (both in Albury) and Round 2 CCC Soccer (Young), where the Junior boys won against Canberra Goulburn Champions-Trinity and will head to Sydney for the State quarter and semi finals later this term. A wonderful result for the Boys 7-10 team and its dedicated manager and coach- Mrs Johns and Mrs Taylor.

Year 12 Students

Year 12 Trial Exam period will be in place for all Year 12 students  in Week 3 and 4. During this time, Year 12 students attend only to complete exams or for personal study in the library if wished. These exams follow the standard timetable outlined for all NSW Catholic schools undertaking CSSA exams. The HSC Presiding Officer, Mrs Kate Norris, will be supervising the trial exams with the support of the Marian staff team and external HSC staff. Year 12 students are encouraged to remember that consistency, and regular study habits, healthy food, activities, and a good night’s sleep are also important preparation tools to help with learning and for managing pre-exam nerves. 

To Students in Year 12 Drama 

Well done and congratulations on a fantastic dress rehearsal for the major independent and group performances last week in the Marian Drama Room! And thank you to parents, staff and Mrs Calabria, Mr Segrave, Mr Aviu and Ms Carlile for your help and support.

Subject Selection for Year 10 and Year 8 

will occur throughout Week 3 and 4 with the Year 11, 2027 Information Session being held in the Marcellin Hall, this Thursday after school from 5.30pm onwards. Thank you to Mr Seers, Mr Matheson, Mr Moore, Mrs Dickie and all KLA leaders and senior teachers for your work and support for this process and our students behind the scenes.  Key dates for student information sessions and form submission have been provided to students and parents. 

Australia Biennial Conference

Congratulations to Mrs Lora Segrave and Mr Damien Herb on their outstanding presentation on collaborative learning teams at the Marist Schools Australia Biennial Conference in Fremantle, Western Australia this week! We are so proud of their excellent work and for representing the work of our teachers and middle leaders at Marian. Thank you, Lora and Damien for all you do in this space and for sharing this with so many other schools in Australia.

Student Wellbeing Support Services Update: 

Recruitment and onboarding processes for a new school counsellor are taking place with Thrive Psychology.   The College will be welcoming a new school counsellor - Rebekah Madill, commencing 17th August. The new fulltime Thrive counsellor will join Georgia Green in supporting our students , along with other MCC  learning, pastoral, wellbeing  and support teams and staff. Further information will be provided soon.

College exit processes

For those students (in any year level) who may be exiting the College before completing Year 12 (including during or at the end of the current school year) we are advising of the formal process to assist both families and the College manage this transition smoothly. 

• Before any transition or exit forms are completed, formal written notification needs to be made to the Principal. 
• This can be via an email from parents or carers submitted to the College Administrative email address. 
• As per the enrolment agreement undertaken by parents, written notification to the Principal is required to be given 10 weeks or 1 term in advance of the planned exit date.
• The formal notification will allow us to put in place any other support required, which may  include a conversation or meeting to discuss any concerns, special circumstances and/or to confirm arrangements.
• Fee arrangements will then be adjusted once all arrangements are confirmed and approved  in accordance with the enrolment contract.

We understand that family circumstances or student needs may change and will work with you to ensure the best outcomes for students and families. Following this process also allows the College to plan appropriately for subjects, classes, resources and staffing going forward.
