Sheepvention - Sunday 2 and Monday 3 August 

A reminder that there are no classes, ELC, Junior School or Senior Campus, on Monday 3 August.

Week 2 Assembly

In our first Assembly for Term Three, we welcomed three new students to the Junior School - Ariana Nguyen in Year 1, Chilli Thomas in Year 5 and Delilah Brennan in Year 6. 

Senior Campus ‘Chicago: Teen Edition’ cast members Sarah Crowle and Leila Robertson performed two wonderful songs from the musical and spoke to the Junior School about the upcoming production on 6, 7 and 8 August.

We also looked at the character trait of ‘kindness’ and I shared a clip about a young boy in the U.K with Wolf Hirchhorn Syndrome. Isaac has experienced a great many medical interventions in his short life but remains positive, optimistic, and brave. He is a huge Liverpool supporter. Two stars from the Liverpool Football Club heard of Isaac and extended the hand of friendship and good will. It is an uplifting story and one that illustrates the power of kindness. 

The following students received Star Student Awards at this week’s Assembly.

Prep 

• Harriet Griek for her kindness and support towards her peers. Harriet is always willing to lend a helping hand and has shown great initiative in her learning. Her positive attitude and willingness to assist others have not gone unnoticed. Well done, Harriet!

• Pippa Wall for consistently trying her best in all literacy tasks. During our sentence writing activities, she took the time to carefully sound out unfamiliar words and remembered to include capital letters and full stops. Great work, Pippa!

Year 2

• Vann Creek for the kindness and consideration he shows towards his peers and for always trying his best in all classroom activities.

Year 5

• George Whinney for the effort he consistently makes to do the right thing and the work and thought he puts in towards presenting his best work, making relevant and thought provoking contributions to class discussion.

• Harriet King for making a conscious effort to do her best in her work, engaging in her learning and contributing positively to our class.

• James Cochran for his thoughtful contributions to all class discussion and working hard to include descriptive language in his writing.

• Daisy Tigges for working hard over the last term to present work that shows her thoughtfulness and attention to detail and making an effort to include new language in her narrative writing.

House Public Speaking

This term, our Year 6 students participate in the 2026 House Public Speaking Competition.  Public speaking is a wonderful opportunity to develop confidence, communicate ideas effectively and push comfort zones. I encourage each Year 6 student to embrace the challenge, put in their very best efforts, and enjoy the experience. The skills they will develop through public speaking will serve them well, not only at school but throughout adult life. 

The students will present speeches to their Houses on the afternoon of 14 August. One student from each House will be selected to participate in the House Public Speaking Final at our Assembly on Monday 24 August. The Simons Family Trophy will be ‘up for grabs’ and we look forward to entertaining and enjoyable presentations. 

Hockey

Under 10s Knights went down 4-0 to Demons Red.

Under 10s Vikings had an entertaining 1-1 draw with Coleraine Gold.

Under 13s Chiefs had their first win for the season, defeating Dunkeld 5-3.

Creative Expressions

KidsMatter have planned a competition called “Creative Expressions” for the month of August. Each class will have a different theme for a story to write. ELC to Year 3 have the option of writing a story or drawing a picture. At the end of August, the Kidsmatter crew will choose the most creative, put them on display and share them at Assembly.

Themes: 

• ELC – Family

• Prep – Fairytales

• Year 1 – Fractured Fairytales (this is when when you make up your own version of a well-known fairytale. E.g The Three Little Pigs with a friendly wolf.)

• Year 2/3 – Disney

• Year 4 – I would like to spend my day as (an animal) because …

• Year 5 – Use this picture prompt ⬆️

• Year 6 – The Switch - swap places with a family member for the day, think ‘Freaky Friday’.

There is no limit to your imagination, so recreate your story any way you like.

This competition is optional. You can prepare your story at home or come to KidsMatter any Friday lunchtime during August and write it there.
