Performing Arts

Shayla Swift - State School Spectactular
I am so proud to represent Elisabeth Murdoch College as a principal vocalist in this year's Victorian State School Spectacular. After months of rehearsals and a full week in the arena, the entire cast came together for two performances at John Cain Arena on August 29th. Auditions began late last year and after four rounds of auditions I was so excited to be cast in 5 numbers as a principal vocalist! The show features an 80-piece orchestra, a 1000 person voice choir, mass dancers and 30 principal dancers and vocalists.
Throughout rehearsals I have been lucky enough to work alongside industry professionals and have taken on so much knowledge about performing and the industry. I learnt from many mentors including Chong Lim, Kathy Hinch, Yvette Lee and Neil Gladwin. This experience has taught me things that I will take with me forever, and has helped me grow as a performer and a person.
I am so grateful to have met so many incredible people and to have been able to perform in such a huge scale show. Performing is a massive part of my life and this experience has made my passion even stronger.
A huge thank you to my teachers at EMC for all of the support they show me, especially all of the performing arts teachers. Your encouragement means the world and I couldn't do it without you.
You can watch the highlights and behind the scenes of the show on channel 7 on Friday, December 18th! The full show will be streamed on 7 plus for 60 days after the broadcast. Hope you enjoy!

Some students will have their after-school rehearsal times change in Semester 2, and as a parent of two very busy kids myself, I understand the organisational challenge this may cause some families. Please get in touch if you have any concerns!
Being part of an ensemble/band is one of the more rewarding aspects of learning an instrument and is also a compulsory part of our program here at EMC. If the rehearsal times don’t align with your schedule, please email me at: dominic.parsons@education.vic.gov.au
Kind Regards,
Dominic Parsons
Instrumental Music Co-ordinator.
