Principal's Report

Last Sunday the sun was shining which made for a perfect morning for our school working bee. A huge thank you to the families who joined us on Sunday. It was wonderful to see so many members of our school community giving up their time to help care for our school grounds. We are so appreciative of your energy, enthusiasm and willingness to pitch in make a difference to our school environment.

Last Friday our school was alive with excitement for the Book Week parade. There were so many fabulous characters from traditional fairy tales to anime book charters and everything in between. Congratulations to everyone for your very creative efforts. As part of our Book Week celebrations, we also enjoyed author visits from Heide McKinnon and Gabrielle Wang. Heide and Gabreille talked to the students about their writing process, where they get their ideas from and answered questions from our students. On Friday afternoon we then showed off our own writing talents in a whole school Writing Celebration. It was wonderful to see the quality of writing in different genres including poems and ballads. The standard of writing across the school is excellent and it is pleasing to see this also reflected in our NAPLAN results again this year.
The Syndal South calendar continues to have so many different opportunities for our students to participate in activities, excursions and learn about the world outside of their classroom. We are very fortunate to have dedicated teachers who go above and beyond to plan and prepare for these activities.
Last week I was lucky enough to enjoy being involved in two of these activities. The Grade 2 Stay Late last Thursday night was fabulous. The students enjoyed a delicious dinner followed by circus activities and then a night walk. They were so well behaved and calm and quiet on the night walk which meant we were able to spot a possum and hear the frogs. Thank you to Miss Chiang, Mrs Tait, Mrs Blaber and the parent helpers!

Then on Monday this week, very early in the morning, I joined a group of year 5 and 6 students on a day trip to Mount Buller. We enjoyed a ski lesson, snow play and some students progressed to a full ski run. It was a truly fabulous day and we were incredibly proud of the way our students represented Syndal South. Thank you to Ms Gaudion, Mr Riley, Lucy Searle and the parent helpers for a magnificent day.
