Sport continues to be a busy in the second half of Term 3 with Yr 7/8 basketball tryouts and trainings along with table tennis and badminton. Thank you so much to Nathan Coombes for managing the table tennis and badminton and Belinda Carrol for assisting basketball team selections.
A busy time in Term 3 for the Clay Target team, with competition all within 3 weeks of each other. The team has been busy training each Tuesday night. I would like to thank Mr Flavel for the time spent assisting with trainings, as well as the Shooting Captains, Charlotte Braune and Seamus Byron, for ensuring the administration and trap houses were set up and ready for training prior to students arriving each week.
We have been lucky enough to have the Hamilton Clay Target Club coach, Stephen Holdsworth, assisting us each week. Training will continue training in Term 4, until our final competition for the Year 7-10 student in late October.
The South West Zone School Championship was held at Noorat, with an 18-member team taking part, nine of whom were new to the sport. Conditions on the day were excellent, giving shooters a great opportunity to perform at their best across the 20-target event.

Georgie Harris was the standout performer, finishing with an impressive 18/20 and heading into a shoot-off for 2nd and 3rd place. Her composure and steady hand under pressure secured her a spot on the team progressing to the State Championships.
Her younger brother Lachie Harris, also new to the team, matched the drama by contesting a shoot-off for 3rd place, narrowly missing out by just one target — a strong effort for a first-year shooter.

Year 11 student, Ed Austin, also impressed, posting a score of 17/20 and going down to the wire in his own shoot-off, just falling short of 3rd place.
Rounding out the top performances, the team's shooting captain finished close behind with a solid 16/20, capping off a strong day for the team, coming in the top 3 overall.

Georgie Harris continued her strong form at the State Clay Target Championships, backing up her Zone success with another impressive performance. Competing in the senior girls division, Georgie finished 4th overall with a score of 22/30, just three targets off 1st place. It was a fantastic result against tough competition at state level, further proof of her calm, consistent shooting. Thanks to her family for traveling to Echuca to support Georgie at the competition.
The Glenelg Division Down the Line competition was held at Hamilton, bringing together 47 shooters from 6 schools for a great day of competition. The atmosphere was fantastic, and a big thank you goes to the Hamilton Clay Target Club for their outstanding support, from trap officials to canteen staff.

In the Experienced Girls category, congratulations go to Georgie Harris, who finished 2nd with 20/24, and shooting captain, Charlotte Braune, who placed 3rd with 14/24. Co-captain Seamus Byron also shot well, placing 4th with 19/20.

In the Novice section, Year 7 students Lachie Harris and Jayden Kinnealy proved they are shooters to watch, both posting matching scores of 16/24 — a great result for two of the team's youngest members.
Despite smaller numbers, the House Shooting Competition served up fierce competition, with the new Year 7 shooters proving that the coaching is paying off in a big way.

High Gun honours came down to a tense shoot out between Seamus Byron (Year 12) and Jack Bourke (Year 7), both hitting 19/25. Experience won out in the end, with Seamus taking the title after a 5-shot shoot-off. Second place also went to a shoot-off, with Year 7 shooter, Alexander McArthur, holding his own against experienced Year 10 shooter Harry Bourke in a stressful contest to finish 3rd.
Most Improved over the two rounds also required a shoot-off, this time between Edward Austin and Sam O'Dowd.

The house results were extremely close, with Treand narrowly edging out Hartzer by just 1 target. Congratulations to Shooting Captain and Treand House Captain, Charlotte Braune.
This week Year 7 and 8 students represented Monivae at Badminton and Table Tennis, with some great results.

Naethan went undefeated in the A grade Badminton singles, demonstrating great skill and composure throughout the event. In the doubles, Johannes and Taj were our best performing team with only one loss. Well done to all the other players who gave it their best effort!

In the Table Tennis, Bella and Sophie went undefeated in the girls A grade doubles, which was a fantastic performance. The girls were also supported by great efforts from Nina (who played A grade singles for the first time), Alit and Tahlia. The boys’ team had Billy put on a dominant show, going undefeated in the A singles (and winning one match without losing a point). Alex, Sineth, Jeremy and Bailey also won all their respective doubles games.

Well done to all the players for a great day and for representing the school in such a positive manner.

Round 5 - 26 August v Ballarat Clarendon College
This week was a challenging and closely contested game, with no more than four goals separating the teams at any stage. Kate McDonnell stood up beautifully in our goal ring this week and was well supported at stages by both Lily Raymond and Lucy McLaren in the Goal Attack position.
While our girls fought hard until the very end, they unfortunately fell just one goal short at the final siren. There were some good lessons to take from this match that will help us regroup and work on improving. A fantastic effort overall from the whole team in such a tight contest.
Best on Court: Kate McDonnell

Q2: Monivae 19 – BC 22
Q3: Monivae 29 – BC 31

Round 1 rescheduled - 2 September v Loreto College
This was our final match of the season, finding out that we had missed out on the Grand Final by just 1 goal last week, with no semi-finals to be played this year.
After a slow start, our girls put on a beautiful display of quality netball; with sensational ball movement, ring work and transition down court. It was pleasing to see all the work come together with a strong team effort, particularly in the second half.
Best on Court: Ava Kinnealy and Kate McDonnell

Coach
The Year 7 & 8 basketballers headed off with high energy and enthusiasm, keen to hit the boards and showcase their skills. All 4 teams started strongly, picking up wins in the first two rounds and continuing their winning streaks throughout the day.

The Year 8 boys hit a snag in their 3rd game, narrowly going down by just one point. Despite this, they were a force to be reckoned with for their other games. The Year 7 boys and both girls teams went undefeated all day — a fantastic result that sees them progress to compete at the Greater Western Region Championships in Ballarat during Term 4.

A big thank you to everyone who made the day possible; coaches Ellie Foley, Harry Button, Maya Carroll and Ewan Anderson, umpires Shannon Mhasho, Lyncoln Bergmark, Zara Bergmark, Cooper Kearney, Darcy Rolls and Ruby Spong, and team managers Belinda Carroll, Tyler Fehsler and Matt Sallis. Congratulations to all the students on a great day of basketball.
