STAFFING UPDATE

This week we have been  very pleased to welcome Ms Bella Nguyen to St John’s.  Bella will be joining the Year 2 team and  taking over fulltime as the classroom teacher next week.  Bella will be working closely with Mrs Alicia Hughes and Ms Chloe Ryall throughout this week, to ensure a seamless transition for the children in the class.  I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Alicia and Chloe for their commitment and dedication over the past eight weeks.

NAPLAN COMPLETED

Today students in Year 3 and Year 5 sat their final NAPLAN assessment for 2025.  The children are to be commended for the calm and confident way they approached these sessions.  The Government will send to parents a report of their child’s progress on the assessments later in the year, and the school will notify families when we receive these results.

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS AT ST JOHN’S

It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying our 10 Year Anniversary celebrations last Friday.  We began the day with a Mass celebrated by Fr Frank and Fr Albert. We gathered as a whole school to give thanks to God for all the graces he has bestowed upon our community since St John's opened in 2015.  There was a surprise visit from Spider-Man who was spotted by many students during playtime and again later in the evening. The day concluded with four hours of fun and festivities.  It was fantastic to see the many past students and teachers who joined us for the celebrations. As you can see from the pictures below a great time was had by all!

PROJECT COMPASSION

Spanning across the six weeks of Lent each year, Project Compassion brings thousands of Australian schools, parishes and supporters together to raise funds for Caritas, our Catholic Aid Agency. These much-needed funds help alleviate poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity in the most vulnerable and marginalised communities in the world.  Each class has their own Project Compassion Box, where students can put their donations.  This is a terrific opportunity for children to use some of their pocket money to give to others in the world who are in need of some support.

CHILD SAFETY - ONLINE SAFETY PARENT HUB

As part of our ongoing commitment to child safety, we have an Online Safety Parent Hub. The Parent Hub provides a wealth of online safety resources such as; digital parenting guides, app reviews and articles.  These are developed by a team of leading digital safety and wellbeing experts. Plus, families have access to free parental control tools to help keep children safe while using their personal devices.  Content on the hub is constantly updated and added to, so parents should try to get into the habit of visiting this regularly especially as new online social media platforms and games are released.

We draw to your attention this newsletter, a short article by online safety expert Taryn Wren, with some great tips on creating Screen Routines.  The article explores:

  • Age-based screen time guidelines
  • Effective screen time boundaries
  • Troubleshooting screen time challenges
