NATIONAL RIDE2SCHOOL DAY
This Friday 21st March, students all around Australia are encouraged to ride to school. This is a particularly important day for us at St John’s because we are in the unique position of having a Bike Ed Program here at school. Join more than 350,000 students across the nation who will be riding, walking, scooting or skating to school on this day.
Thanks to Mrs Stevenson who has made a couple of videos for any families needing a refresher on how to change or repair a tyre tube for a bike. Please click on the links below to watch these tutorials:

Please note this is a slight change from the date we had previously published.
2025 SCHOOL CLOSURES
All Catholic Primary Schools within the Archdiocese of Melbourne have school closure days each term for staff to attend professional development. Last week staff attended a regional Professional Learning Session with other Catholic Primary Schools in our zone. This work is a continuation of our work as part of the Flourishing Learners project.
In February 2024, Melbourne Archdiocese of Catholic Schools (MACS) changed the way reading, writing and mathematics are taught in primary and secondary schools throughout the Archdiocese of Melbourne. This new Vision for Instruction promotes explicit instruction, a way of teaching in which complex skills are introduced to students in small steps, supported by clear explanations and demonstrations of what students are expected to learn. Students then practise what they have learned and receive feedback from their teacher until the skill is mastered.
MACS is leading explicit instruction and evidence-based practice education in Victoria to achieve teaching and learning excellence.
The focus of our May school closure day will be the Catholic Year of Jubilee, which the Pope has decreed for 2025. Please see the table below for this year’s scheduled School Closure dates:
