Industrial Action UPDATE

Dear APS Families,
Yesterday I provided the following information via Compass regarding the upcoming AEU industrial action:
Just a forewarning to parents/carers that the Australian Education Union has called on its members to take industrial action on Tuesday 24 March 2026 as a Stop Work . Please note this will significantly affect staffing at Alphington P.S. with many teachers supporting this action. In turn this will also impact on the number of students we can have onsite next Tuesday. I will send out further correspondence to parents as information becomes available.

Further to this message I can share the timetable that I am required to follow as per Department of Education (DE) guidelines.
Below is the current timetable as to how the school will respond:
- By 10am Wednesday 18 March - Principal provides notice of communications to all staff.
- Wednesday 18 March - Principal communicates draft timeline and proposed possible arrangements with community via school newsletter.
- By 5pm Friday 20 March - Any staff planning to take stop work action must inform their Principal or respective Regional Director.
- By 1:00pm Monday 23 March - Principals must report number of staff who have indicated their intention to participate in the stop work to DE.
- By 2:00pm Monday 23 March - Principals must provide parents and carers with notice of communications regarding school operations.
Based upon the preliminary information provided to me, a significant majority of our teaching staff will be taking part in the strike action. Consequently, I expect that several year levels will not have teachers available and will not be required to attend. In those year levels where we do have teachers I expect there to be modifications to the normal program.
It is my intention to have a plan in place prior to the weekend, so parents and families have ample time to make necessary arrangements.
