School News and Information

STAGE 1 NEWS
Welcome to Term 1 Week 9
Students have been busy engaging in lots of amazing learning experiences. They have especially enjoyed the opportunity to take their learning outside, making the most of hands-on and active lessons. We also thoroughly enjoyed a visit from Questacon, which delivered a funny, engaging and highly informative show that had everyone excited about science. We are also incredibly proud of our students for being named show champions for their collaborative artwork, which they worked so hard on together. As we move closer to the end of the term, we are looking forward to celebrating with the Easter hat parade and raffles—an exciting way to finish a wonderful term.
Maths
This term in Mathematics, students began by exploring 2D shapes, including heading out into the playground to find and identify shapes in our everyday environment. They have taken part in a range of fun, hands-on activities to investigate the properties of different shapes and build their understanding of patterns. More recently, we have moved on to measurement, with a focus on the concept of area. Students have been using informal measurement tools, such as counters and grid squares, and are becoming increasingly confident in calculating and comparing areas in practical ways. We are super proud of all their efforts!
Science
This term in Science, students have been learning all about the life cycles of plants through fun, hands-on experiences. Students planted and cared for their own sunflower seeds, enjoying the chance to watch them grow while recording the changes along the way. We also explored Indigenous ways of knowing, helping students develop a deeper appreciation for nature and how we can learn from the environment around us. The Magpies and Possums loved getting outdoors into our local habitats to observe, explore and collect information. As we head towards the end of the term, we are excited to begin learning about animal life cycles and continue our science journey.
Visual Literacy
This term in Visual Literacy, students have combined visual arts and writing to explore their creativity and express their ideas in meaningful ways. They have worked on a variety of engaging projects, including creating 3D models of the life cycle of a flowering plant using modelling clay, which supported their understanding of scientific concepts through art. Our spectacular show entry, based on the theme “Looking Back, Looking Forward,” encouraged students to reflect on their past and imagine what they might like to be when they grow up, resulting in a show winning piece!! Students also created stunning watercolour seasonal trees to complement their study of A Year on Our Farm, as well as detailed fine line marker sunflowers—some of which we hope to enter in the upcoming “Let’s Hang It” competition. Throughout the term, students have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be creative and have produced some truly amazing work.
PDH
This term students have been busy learning all about road safety including pedestrian, passenger and wheel safety. We are learning what to do in an emergency situation and have enjoyed role playing and safety related discussions.
What a fantastic Term 1 it has been in Stage 1! We’ve absolutely loved watching the growth, confidence, and development of all our wonderful learners. Every day has brought new achievements, big smiles, and moments that remind us how special our Magpies and Possums truly are. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds as we continue this exciting journey together in Team Stage 1!
