World Teachers' Day

Celebrating Our Teachers
Last week on World Teachers’ Day, we celebrated the dedicated educators who make Mount Alvernia College such a special place to learn, grow and belong. Each day, our teachers bring expertise, care and commitment to their classrooms, inspiring students to be curious, resilient and confident young people.
Their impact extends far beyond academic achievement. Through the relationships they build and the opportunities they create, our teachers help students discover their Human Edge, developing the courage, compassion and critical thinking that will stay with them long beyond graduation.
We are immensely proud of our educators and grateful for all they bring to our College community. Happy World Teachers’ Day to our outstanding teaching staff!
Pax et Bonum Award Winners
Congratulations to Ms Daniella Curcuruto and Mr David O'Regan who were awarded the Pax et Bonum award at last week's lunch. This award recognises Mount Alvernia College staff who embody the Franciscan spirit of “Peace and Goodness” through kindness, service, gratitude and genuine care for others. Celebrating our Human Edge, the award honours those who create meaningful connections, uplift colleagues and strengthen our community through compassion, purpose and a positive spirit of service.
Our Property Manager David brings Franciscan joy to our community through the generosity and purpose with which he serves others. Kind, calm and always willing to help, he approaches every task with a “can do” attitude and a genuine desire to make things better for those around him. His contribution may often happen behind the scenes, but its impact is significant.
Our Music Teacher Dani (Ms C) creates ‘Moments that Matter’ through the genuine care she shows students and colleagues. She notices when someone needs support, steps in without hesitation and follows through with purpose. Her quiet, selfless approach brings a wonderful sense of goodwill and belonging to our community.
Congratulations, Dani and David, and thank you for showing us the Human Edge in action, where kindness, connection and a spirit of service create moments that truly matter.
TeachX Award Winners
We also acknowledged the achievements of Mr Bradley Welch and Ms Jane Martens, who were recently recognised as Winners in the 2026 Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) TEACHX Awards. Their recognition is a wonderful testament to the passion, expertise and care they bring to education each day. Bradley’s deep subject knowledge, evidence-informed practice and genuine commitment to student growth have quickly established him as an exceptional educator, while Jane’s visionary leadership in technology, innovation, digital citizenship and artificial intelligence continues to shape learning both at Mount Alvernia College and beyond.
Together, they demonstrate the very best of education: embracing innovation and excellence while keeping relationships, ethics and the Human Edge at the centre. We are enormously proud to celebrate this richly deserved achievement with them.
