Miss Sartain's class

This term in the senior classroom, we've begun by exploring materials, inventions and engineering wonders! We’ve been investigating what everyday things are made from. As well as, where different materials come from, and whether they are natural or man-made. As part of this exploration, we have explored some clever Aussie inventions, including the 'Hills Hoist' clothesline, the dual flush toilet, and the iconic 'Victa' lawn mower.

In a fun twist on classroom management and real-world learning, we've introduced "Big Bucks", as our class money system. Students are paid for tasks like classroom jobs and home reading, but may also be fined. This will help students to build a strong understanding of financial literacy and personal responsibility.

We’ve also started our first class novel for the term: the fascinating picture book "How Was That Built? The Stories Behind Awesome Structures" by Roma Agrawal. Through this text, we’ll dive into the engineering marvels behind how structures are built in the sea and even on the moon! We’ll also explore the materials used and the innovative thinking behind iconic buildings across all seven continents.

An upcoming event this term is, which students are very excited for is the Lightning Premierships in Coleraine on Tuesday the 26th of August. Our senior students will take part in a day of round robin of netball or football matches. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to work as a team with students from other schools, be active and to showcase their skills. Miss Sartain will also be involved in the action by umpiring the netball on the day.
