VM Altona Autodrome

Monday 12th May

After completing a course with Intelligent Training Solutions called Road Safety Skillset in Term 1, our Year 11 & 12 VM students were invited to visit the Toyota Centre of Excellence.  So, on Monday we piled onto a bus along with myself, Mrs Taylor, and Mr Coghill and headed south to Altona.  Leaving at 7:30am seemed like an unachievable task for some students, however, the appeal of driving and being a passenger in some outstanding vehicles motivated them to be there on time.

Arriving at the centre mid-morning did not disappoint.  Students all had the opportunity to drive the course, under many different conditions, including icy roads and obstacles.  The smiles on the faces of all students were a sight to see.

Mr. Coghill was like a kid in a candy store, test driving in excess of $1 million worth of vehicles, the most expensive being $300,000!

The staff at the centre treated the group to a pizza lunch which was not expected but definitely appreciated.  The driving time the students did was able to be added to their Learner driving hours, so beneficial.

We would like to thank Cameron and the staff at the Toyota Centre of Excellence for allowing us to visit the centre and allow students to practise their driving skills in conditions they may not usually have had the opportunity to do.  Such a worthwhile experience.
