English

We will continue the concepts taught in InitiaLit–1. This term we will focus on:
Phonics
We will look at the sounds /_y/, /igh/, /ue/, /ew/, /ar/, /or/, /ore/, /ir/, /ur/, /er/ and split digraphs such as /a_e/, /i_e/, /o_e/, /e_e/ and /u_e/. We will apply these sounds to the children’s reading and spelling.
Vocabulary
We will read high quality texts, developing the children’s comprehension, increasing their word knowledge through high quality text.
Writing
In Term one we began the InitialWrite program. InitialWrite is a program that helps students develop strong writing skills by building their vocabulary, teaching them how to construct clear sentences, and guiding them through the writing process. It also gives children lots of opportunities to practise different types of writing, with oral language used as an important foundation for turning their ideas into written text.
Home Reading
We are so appreciative of your continued support at home with your children's reading. Many studies have shown the importance of daily reading to develop fluency and comprehension skills. Please remember to read four nights a week and continue to fill in your child’s diary. Don’t forget to spell and read those tricky words at the back of the diary.
