Writing Club Update

At RNPS we are grateful to have a large group of willing and active community volunteers who are keen to get involved in any way they can. This term we have been lucky to have Kathleen Mendan (mum of Freddie in Grade 6 and Anna in Grade 3) lend her time and expertise to run a lunchtime writing club for our students. It has been a huge success so far!

Here is an update from Kathleen about the how the club has been running in Term 2:

Writing Club in Term 2 has consistently seen between 11 to 14 students attend each Wednesday lunchtime in the 3/4S classroom to craft and hone their creative writing.

The group has shown friendly support for one another, with many students attending in pairs or small groups of three or four.

This term, Writing Club has focused primarily on character development, including describing a character’s appearance, exploring their inner world, developing their setting, and building an understanding of their friends and family.

The final weeks of Writing Club this term will focus on developing a longer story featuring the character each student has created.

All the students who have participated, whether for one week or for the full term, have shown great enthusiasm for creating and imagining characters and their worlds. I’m looking forward to featuring some of this work on www.thewordcorner.com soon.

In Term 2, Writing Club has focused on Grades 3 and 4. We hope to offer Writing Club to students in Grades 5 and 6 in Term 3.
