Inquiry Term 3

This term, our Inquiry learning is united by our whole-school Environment Throughline, encouraging students to explore the interconnectedness of people, places and living things, and to consider the role we all play in caring for our world.

 

Drawing on learning from Science, Geography and Civics and Citizenship, students across the school will investigate rich questions through authentic learning experiences:

 

  • Prep: What do animals need to grow and survive?Students will investigate animals’ basic needs and explore ways they can help protect animals by caring for their habitats.
  • Year 1/2: What makes Australia unique?Students will explore Australia's unique environments, landmarks and natural features to better understand what makes our country special.
  • Year 3/4: How can we impact the survival of species?Students will investigate threats to wildlife and habitats before designing their own 'Fighting Extinction' projects to make a positive difference for a species of their choice.

  • Year 5/6: Why do some people have so little whilst others have more than they need?Students will use geographical inquiry skills to investigate real-world issues of resource distribution and sustainability, before proposing evidence-based solutions to improve equity and wellbeing.

     

Throughout the term, students will deepen their understanding that the Earth's environments are interconnected and that the decisions made by individuals, communities, organisations and governments can have a significant impact on both people and the natural world. Our goal is for students to develop not only knowledge and understanding, but also a sense of responsibility and agency as they consider how they can contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.

 

We are fortunate to have a community with a wealth of knowledge and experience. If you have expertise, a profession, hobby or lived experience that connects with any of these inquiry topics, we would love to hear from you. Whether you could speak with a class, share resources or support our learning in another way, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher. Your involvement helps create rich, authentic learning opportunities for our students.
