Student Eating Time

Eating Times at School – Term 3 Update

From the beginning of Term 3, all students will eat their recess and lunch in their classroom spaces. This means we will no longer be having combined eating times outside.

As families may be aware, schools are required to operate within the conditions of the current Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA). This adjustment allows us to meet these obligations while continuing to provide students with a more positive and purposeful eating environment.

To ensure we are meeting our obligations within the EBA, eating time in classrooms will coincide with valuable learning time. During eating periods, teachers will continue to engage with students in a teaching and learning capacity rather than a supervision only role. Depending on the needs and age of the class, this may include activities such as reading a class novel, listening to and discussing current events through age-appropriate resources such as Squiz Kids News, engaging in plenary discussions that encourage students to reflect on their learning, or participating in circle time conversations that support student wellbeing and classroom culture.

These opportunities provide valuable moments for connection and discussion, helping to strengthen relationships and support student .

We appreciate your support as we implement this change.
