Principal's Report

Reports

Teachers have finished the Semester 1 reports and Assessment Portfolios and I have signed them.

The Assessment Portfolios, including the reports, will be sent home today, Wednesday June 24th.

We ask parents to read the information enclosed, sign the parent form and provide any feedback you believe is appropriate and then return the portfolio to school by Monday July 27th so that you can refer to it during your child’s 3 Way Conference.

Please remember that due to the industrial action earlier this term there will be no written comments this semester.

The Compass booking system for 3 Way conferences will open at 3:30 pm on Monday July 13th.  It is very important that parents, teachers, and the child are all working towards the same goals to ensure your child is making the appropriate progress.

Term 2

This term has seen lots of highlights, including:

  • Various interschool sports teams make it through to grand finals, with some going on to win.
  • Students representing the school at Cross Country and making it through to high levels.
  • Our Grade Prep to 3 students did an outstanding job with their mini concerts which showcased the performing arts and music programs.
  • Our Grade 5 students made puppets in art and then put on a puppet show during Whole School Event day.
  • Our magnificent Grade 6 leaders who assisted with the Prep tours. They received outstanding feedback from the parents who attended the sessions.
  • The Environment Group's very successful bake sale.
  • Seeing so many people visit the school during Education Week.
  • The community Cinema night.
  • Our JSC's very colourful Pyjama Day.

We already have lots on the calendar for next term so I’m sure there will be loads more highlights to come.

OSHC

On Monday night at School Council, we made the decision to increase some of the charges for OSHC.

The last day of the term will increase from $25 to $30 and the last day of the school year will increase from $25 to $35.

The reason for the increase is that we have to employ staff for an extra hour on the last day of a term and an extra 2 ½ hours on the last day of the school year. The increase in the fees will offset the cost of the extra hours of staff wages we have to pay.

As of the beginning of Term 3 we are also introducing a $10 fee for families that have a booking and do not cancel

Unfortunately, this is becoming an ongoing issue for the staff at OSHC. The staff are spending time every afternoon trying to find students who do not turn up and haven’t cancelled. On some days there can be 3-4 students that they are trying to find. Hopefully, the potential of a fee will result in less parents failing to cancel their booking(s).

Socceroos

On Friday the Socceroos game will be played on the large screen in the PAC for those students who are interested to watch. As the game goes for such a long time it will be limited to those who are interested. The game will also be shown on the screens in classrooms.

Holidays

Friday, June 26th, is the last day of Term 2 and school will finish at 2.30pm.

Parents - please ensure you are not late to pick up your child as some children become quite upset if their parents are not here to pick them up on time.

I hope all of our families who are lucky enough to be escaping Melbourne and heading north to the sunshine have a lovely time over the term break.

For those who are staying home I hope you rug up and relax.

We look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday July 13th.

Regards,

Janet Paterson,

Principal.
