Principal's Report

Giving every child the opportunities to reach their potential

Our school community continues to thrive on the relationships built with students, teachers and parents.  We know that all students can achieve when we provide a safe and supportive environment where every individual feels valued and heard. Whether it's student-student, teacher-student or parent-teacher relationships, these bonds form the foundation of a positive learning experience, enhancing collaboration, community and overall wellbeing.

This week, Year 7 & 8 families met their child's GOAL Mentor, while families of VCE Unit 3/4 students connected with their teachers. All earning house points for their child’s house-Beckett, Ricketts, Southern, Waratah.  Looking ahead, we extend a warm invitation to new families joining us for the New Parents ICT Information Evening. These are available both on-site and virtually and we would like students to attend with parents.

There are also opportunities to attend the Visible Wellbeing webinar, a valuable resource offering insights and support for your child's emotional and mental health. The school is using visible wellbeing for every student in every learning space every day.

Your active engagement as parents and carers is an important factor in helping your child achieve their potential. This not only strengthens the bond between home and school but also contributes to a supportive environment that empowers our students academically, socially and emotionally. I encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities that come your way throughout the year.

Alumni still part of our community

Our commitment to fostering lasting connections is exemplified by adding the alumni to our college workforce. These individuals, having experienced our educational environment firsthand, are now actively contributing to the school's success. From tutoring and supporting the IT Team to coaching sports and providing general assistance, it is truly heartening to welcome back Bjorn S, Holly B, Baden M, Spencer M, Kyle G and Rhys S.

Year 7 Camp

Last week's Year 7 camp was evidence of students taking opportunities provided to make the most of the start to secondary school. The students were undeterred by the hot weather and wild storm. They were optimistic and involved in every activity although they were a bit disappointed that the power outage meant no disco. It was a pleasure to attend the camp and witness our impressive Year 7 Year Level Leader candidates delivering their speeches.

2024 Student Leaders

I am so proud of our 2024 Student Leaders who will be officially introduced at our whole-school assembly on Monday. The diversity of roles reflects the multifaceted nature of leadership at our school and our newly appointed leaders are committed to the college with energy and excitement. We look forward to their contributions and the positive influence they will have on our school. Please join me in congratulating them and supporting their leadership journey.

2024 School Council Election

The number of nominations in both the parent and school employee categories in the 2024 School Council Election matched the number of vacancies, eliminating the need for a ballot. I am pleased to announce our new/returning School Council members for the upcoming term:

There is a buzz around the college with two eagerly anticipated events, The Year 12 Formal to be held on Friday 1 March and the BSC House Swimming Carnival on Wednesday 6 March. I look forward to sharing highlights of both events over the coming newsletters.
