It has been wonderful to see all the students return to school this term, ready and eager to learn. Our staff have lots of activities planned for the students so buckle in for an exciting term.

Congratulations Miss Woodmansey

I would like to start by congratulating Miss Kelsey Woodmansey and her partner Jayden, who became engaged over the school holidays. We're excited for their adventure that lays ahead!

Triple P Parent Course

On Friday, 12 August, we will be hosting a Positive Parenting Program in the library from 9-11am. For those who haven't heard about the program, it has been running in schools and community groups for many years, with a focus on helping parents with strategies to support their children. Having been involved in the course myself, for my own young children, I highly recommend it. There will be a creche available for Kindy age children or younger - please advise how many children you are bringing so that we can cater accordingly. We hope to see you there!

NAIDOC Week

Last week we celebrated NAIDOC week with a range of activities, starting with a Welcome to Country and Aboriginal Flag Raising ceremony on Tuesday, which was performed by Mr Vaughn Macquire, a local elder. On Wednesday we were lucky enough to have the Girrawheen Senior High School Clontarf dancers in to perform for our students, and we ended the week with a meeting circle to share what we had all learned throughout the week, along with an indigenous sports afternoon. I wish to sincerely thank our AIEO, Miss Anika Gosling, as well as Mrs Karen Rogers, for all their hard work in preparing and coordinating the activities for this important week.

Faction Shirt Fridays

The P&C have ordered and now received new faction T-shirts for students to wear at school. The new shirts are polos and have the faction names and logos printed on the front. Starting next week, students will be encouraged to wear their faction shirts to school each Friday, to support their faction. They will also be able to wear these shirts at the upcoming athletics carnival. New faction shirts can be purchased at the P&C uniform shop on Monday mornings before school for $21, however, students are also allowed to wear their old plain-coloured faction shirts if they wish.

Breakfast Club

MPS has a 5 day a week, staff led breakfast program. This is a real credit to the staff who continue to volunteer day in and day out. We would like to extend involvement in the running of the club to our school community. If you would like to Volunteer on a specific day this term we would love to have you. Please contact our Chaplain, Tammy Bija, via the front office or on Class Dojo, for further details.

Book Week Dress Up Day - Tuesday, 9 August

Mrs Preston has organised our book week dress up day to take place on Tuesday, 9 August. Book week is all about promoting the power of reading and the importance of reading each and every day. The theme this year is 'Paws for Reading', although students may dress up in any book-themed costume. We look forward to seeing all the students (and staff!) in their book week costumes soon.

School Photo Delays

Thank you to everyone for your patience around the school photos this year. As you know, the follow-up date for the school photos was delayed several times, for which we apologise on behalf of the photography company. I spoke with them today and they hope to have photos out to the school by the middle of this term. As soon as we receive them, we will send them home with students.

Mobile App to Monitor Online Bullying

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

year of schooling
category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information.
