Somers Camp

Today, I had the pleasure of having lunch with our 12 students who are currently attending Somers Camp.

Somers School Camp is a program run by the Victorian Department of Education. Every two years, a small number of students from Years 5 and 6 are selected to participate in a nine-day residential program. Each program includes approximately 160 students drawn from a variety of schools within networks across Victoria.

During the camp, students take part in a wide range of adventure activities including archery, art, bike education, boating, bushcraft and the challenge swing. They also enjoy self-selected and student-directed activities such as animal feeding, mini golf and time in the games room. Each evening, the entire camp comes together to participate in group activities such as games nights, night hikes, bush dances, concerts/discos and tabloid sports.

Our students who are currently on camp are having a wonderful experience, building independence, confidence, and new friendships.

Gilbert Road Crossing

After a near miss last Friday, our Gilbert Road Crossing Supervisor, Julie, has asked us to remind parents/carers of the following crossing rules for both children and adults:

  • cross at the crossing between the lines, not a few metres away

  • cross when the light is green, definitely not red

  • walk with bikes or scooters across the road, do not ride them

  • hold balls while crossing the road, do not bounce it

Julie’s priority is to keep everyone safe on busy Gilbert Road and she would appreciate the support of our parents/carers in modelling these rules or re-enforcing them with older children who travel to school unsupervised. Students will also be reminded of these expectations at today's assembly.

School Photos

Photographer, Tania Jovanovic, and her team will once again conduct our school photos next week. The schedule will be spread from Tuesday 5 to Friday 8 May and will be sent out to families on Monday.  It will factor in school related absences such as Somers Camp. Personalised photo envelopes were sent home last week in preparation; cash payments can be dropped at the office in the tub on the counter by the due date, or you can pay online as per instructions on the envelope.

2027 Enrolments

We are now accepting 2027 prep enrolments. If you have a child ready to commence school next year, please collect a Student Enrolment Form from the office or download from our website. Completing enrolment forms as soon as practical supports us with planning for future staffing and learning spaces. Please make sure you include the name of your child’s kindergarten, and include copies of the three required supporting documents: birth certificate or passport, immunisation record and proof of residence, eg: utility bill.

Have a wonderful weekend.
