International Women's Day Forum

Friday 14 March 2025

On Friday the 14th of March our female school leaders; Catherine, Auburn, Charlotte and Eden, headed down to Carrum Downs Secondary School for an International Women's Day Forum. The auditorium was filled with many young girls from across the Kingston and Frankston area where we all listened to guest speakers, Sonya Kilkenny, Attorney General and Minister for Planning of Victoria, and Siobhan Whittle, Magistrate of the Children's Court give inspiring speeches about how to continue the journey for equal treatment of women. Siobhan spoke about the key point of continuing our learning and educating ourselves to be better prepared for the treacherous journey ahead for fighting for equal rights.

The key takeaway messages were:

  • We learnt about the importance of reading to further our education and increase our attention span.
  • We were guided by women in parliament or high governmental positions on their journey around the workforce but also life, we were given tips and tricks like, to not say sorry! (women deserve a spot in the workforce, don’t apologise for just existing), to take every opportunity you can get in the workforce and to extend it out of hours (your career doesn't have to be just a 9-5!).
  • We discussed keeping and achieving leadership roles in our later years, and the importance of women's equality and voice in the workforce.
  • We learnt about statistics and views on the issues surrounding women’s equality and ways to help others overcome these.

Here at Mordialloc College we are dedicated to striving for equality for all our students and giving our female students an equal opportunity for greatness as everyone else. We as a leadership team are excited to engage in some constructive conversations about what we can do here at school and begin to implement this into our College structure.

Thank you
