Year 2 - Science
This semester in our Food and Fibre unit in Science, Year 2 students have been learning about plants that are grown here locally in Moree. We created posters about what is available in Moree. We included cotton, wheat, pecans, oranges and olives. We then sketched and created ideas for our own product that could be made from these plants. Some students designed a perfume from the oranges, a scarecrow from the wheat and a new teabag flavour made from olives.
We explored bush tucker used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People which included bush plums, bush yams, mangrove worms, mulga seeds, wild oranges, bush tomatoes, bush banana, witchetty grubs, kangaroos and wallabies.
We looked at the traditional ways to make damper using grinding stones to crush Mitchell grass and cook it over a fire, compared to the modern day method of mixing flour, butter and water and cooking it in an oven.
We discussed safe ways to store and transport food by packing meat at the bottom to avoid drips, using ice packs to keep food cold and washing your hands before unpacking groceries.
Finally, we learned about how materials change when they are heated, cooled, or when water is added or removed. To explore this, we added water, glue and newspaper together to make some papier-mache oranges. We have had a lot of engaging and hands-on experiences in Science this term!
Year 6 Excursion - Canberra 17 - 21 August 2026
Students from our school will soon be undertaking an educational tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $135 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

K-6 Cultural Games
Over the past few weeks in PE, all grades have been learning to play traditional Aboriginal games. On Thursday, students participated in a series of rotations where they played these games in mixed-grade groups. It was so lovely to see our older students stepping up and helping out our younger students throughout the rotations.
