From the Office

Swimming Program - We are now two lessons into our Wednesday Swimming Program at Gurri Wanyarra and it's great to see our students enjoying their time in the pool, working well with their group instructors and practicing different skills required to learn to swim and be safe around water. 4 lessons to go!
Reading @ Home - Thank you to our school families for the support given at home to our students as they are practicing their reading either in the evening or in the morning. We have many students who are well over 10 nights read already and I look forward to awarding some 25 Night certificates very soon. A reminder to please pop an adults signature into the date box in the reading journal so that your child's reading can count towards their total.
Attendance - At Raywood PS, we are very appreciative of the effort made at home to support regular attendance at school. Whilst we celebrate regular daily and weekly attendance, it is important to also reflect on the habits we create for our young people by supporting them to come to school every day. Research tells us that students who develop healthy school attendance habits, generally have better health outcomes across their lives and find it easier to connect to and contribute amongst community. These are healthy habits we are pleased to be kickstarting at Raywood!
Values Awards - Congratulations to Eleanor, Beau and Skylar who have been recent recipients of our Raywood PS Values Award!
This week we will be introducing two additional awards that will be presented during our Assembly on a Friday. The first new award will be a School Leader's Values Award with the weekly recipient chosen by our Grade 5/6 students and the second new award being a GEM Award; connected to our work with The Resilience Project.
Individual Learning Plans - At Raywood PS, every student is supported with an Individual Learning Plan. These are currently being developed by teachers and a copy will be sent home next week. Students will have both a Learning Goal and a Wellbeing Goal that they will be supported to work towards over the coming semester. Later on in the term we will also be holding Student Learning Catch Ups, this will be a great opportunity for parents to meet with teachers and discuss learning.
Working Bee - We are looking forward to our Working Bee which will be held next Saturday (27th Feb) in the morning. We will be planting out our new garden beds, watering and mulching. Please consider coming along if you can, many hands make easy planting!
Gr 3-6 Open Water Excursion - On Tuesday 3rd March the Grade 3-6 class will be travelling to Crusoe Reservoir in Bendigo to participate in Open Water, which is a swimming program ran by Lifesaving Victoria and focuses on providing students with opportunities to learn about how to be safe in and around potentially unsafe water sources (lakes, rivers, ocean etc.). More information is provided on the uEducateUs event.
School Council Elections - A reminder to families that our School Council elections are fast approaching. This year we will have a number of vacancies in the Parent Member Category. If you are interested in nominating for School Council or have any wonderings, please have a chat with James at school, nominations close next Friday (27th Feb).
Thanks Everyone,
James
